BIG EAST Weekly Release - Aug. 23
On The National Scene
The NCAA released the first statistical rankings of the season and though it’s early, BIG EAST teams found themselves amongst the Division I leaders in a number of categories. Thanks to back-to-back shutout victories to open the season, St. John’s and Xavier, and starting goalkeepers Diana Poulin and Rachel Piccus, are in a tie for first place for goals against average, shutout percentage, save percentage and winning percentage. Through Monday’s games, 44 teams across 23 leagues have not allowed a goal, with 11 conferences, including the BIG EAST, boasting multiple teams which have not surrendered a score. The Red Storm inched closer to the NSCAA Top 25 on Monday, receiving votes for the first time this season. Hat trick scorers Rachel Corboz of Georgetown and Ida DiClemente of Villanova also found themselves among the national leaders in goals and points, with Corboz’s added assist moving her to No. 16 among all D1 players in points per game.

Seton Hall earned its first win of the season at Army on Monday night, downing the Black Knights in overtime, 1-0, off of Siobhan McGovern’s 97
