ATLANTA – Creighton and DePaul boasted two of the top team grade point averages in Division I women’s basketball during the 2015-16 season, as the WBCA announced the Academic Top 25 Team Honor Rolls on Tuesday. The Bluejays ranked 16th nationally with a 3.498 GPA while the Blue Demons posted a 3.470 GPA to list 21st.
The WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes NCAA Division I, II and III; NAIA and junior/community college women’s basketball teams across the nation that carry the highest combined GPAs inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2015-16 season is the 21st in which the WBCA as compiled the honor rolls. St. Francis Brooklyn posted Division I’s top GPA with its 3.712 clip.
Creighton has earned the WBCA Academic Top 25 Honor six times in head coach Jim Flanery's 14 seasons at the helm. It is the first time since 2010-11 when Creighton was fourth overall.
DePaul is one of just two schools – joining St. Bonaventure – as the only programs to participate in the NCAA Tournament and appear in the academic poll. The WBCA Academic Poll dates back to the 1997-98 season while DePaul has appeared in 12 of those polls. The Blue Demons have been honored in 10 of the last 11 polls and ranked as high as No. 2 (2011-12 and 2010-11) and have a total of six top 10 finishes since 2005-06.
