Marquette's Farrell, St. John's Beckwith Take Weekly Golf Awards
NEW YORK – Marquette sophomore Oliver Farrell has been named BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week and St. John’s sophomore Kirsty Beckwith has been selected BIG EAST Female Golfer of the Week in the fourth week of the fall season.
BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week
Oliver Farrell, Marquette, So. – Farrell posted his third career top-10 finish with a one-over-par 217 at the Windon Memorial Classic hosted by Northwestern. He tied for eighth place in a field of 78 golfers and Marquette took 10
th as a team. Farrell shot a 2-under par 70 in the first round, his fourth round of par or better over his last five rounds. In his first two events of the fall season, Farrell is leading his team by averaging 72.6 strokes per round and ranks third in the BIG EAST in scoring.
BIG EAST Female Golfer of the Week
Kirsty Beckwith, St. John’s, So. – For the second straight week, Beckwith claimed a second-place finish when she closed out the Dartmouth Invitational with a two-round score of one-over-par 145. She shot a one-under-par 71 in the final round and jumped five spots in the standings. As a team, the Red Storm finished second behind Boston College.
BIG EAST Men’s Notes
Creighton’s Kade Brown continued his fine play with an even-par 216 at the The Jackrabbit in Valentive, Neb. He fired rounds of 74, 72 and 70 to tie for 14
th in the field of 64 competitors on a par-72 course that measured 7,208 yards. Brown owns 21 career rounds at or below par. Creighton finished 10
th as a team.
BIG EAST Women’s Notes
Creighton’s Kelsey Petersen tied for 25
th place with rounds of 77, 74 and 79 for a 230 at the Chip-N Club Invitational in Lincoln, Nev. Her 74 was her lowest round of the fall season…St. John’s freshman Linda Wang is off to a strong start, finishing fourth at the Dartmouth Invitational with a two-round score of 147, three over par.
