BIG EAST Notes - 9.30

NEW YORK –
Going into the weekend No. 2 of BIG EAST volleyball action, Creighton still leads the league at 2-0, but Seton Hall is two games ahead at 3-1. Villanova is just behind at 2-1.
 
Four teams are tied at 1-1: Marquette, Butler, DePaul and Xavier. Georgetown falls to 1-2 and St. John’s to 1-3. Providence will be on the hunt for their first win at 0-2.
 
Two games will be broadcast on the BIG EAST Digital Network this weekend starting with Providence at Butler at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30 and finishing up Saturday at DePaul with the Blue Demons hosting Georgetown at 7 p.m. Friday night’s game will feature Hinkle Fieldhouse for the first time this season on BEDN. Hinkle is the site of their year’s BIG EAST Championship, presented by Jeep, which will be held, Friday, Nov. 25 and Saturday, Nov. 26.
 
In the Polls:
In the latest AVCA poll released on Monday, Sept. 26, Marquette and Creighton continue to receive votes.  
 
NCAA Stat Rankings:
In team stats, Butler is the national leader in team assists (900) and team kills (958), helped by outside hitter Anna Logan who is fourth in the country in total kills (318) and third in total attacks (801), while ranking fourth in points (361.0) and 12th in kills per set (4.54). The Bulldogs’ setter, Makayala Fergusen ranks ninth in assists (640), tied with Providence’s Chicyia Clark. St. John’s Danisha Moss leads the nation in total blocks with 98.
 
Of Note:
When Xavier hosts Creighton and Providence this weekend, it will be the Musketeers first games played at the Cintas Center this season.
 
Veteran Coaches:
Three BIG EAST volleyball coaches boast over 380 career wins: Sharon Clark of Butler, Kirsten Bernthal Booth of Creighton and Joanne Persico of St. John’s.  Clark was the latest to hit win No. 380 with a 3-1 victory on Sept. 24 over Persico’s Red Storm.
