NEW YORK  – DePaul won the Bulldog Showdown at Fresno State as Brittany Maxwell was named Tournament MVP. Providence went a perfect 4-0 at the Lafayette/Lehigh Tournament, with wins over both home teams. St. John’s remains undefeated at 6-0 after a three-win weekend in the Jack Kaiser Classic at Carnesecca Arena. Butler split 2-2 at the Hawkeye Classic in Iowa City.
 
Butler (2-2) at the Hawkeye Classic (Iowa City, Iowa)
Oakland 3, Butler 2 (21-25, 27-25, 17-25, 25-22, 15-13) | Full Recap
Oakland took a commanding 14-5 lead in the fifth and final set only to see Butler get within a point at 14-13. Oakland took a timeout to momentarily halt the scoring spree and the strategy paid off with Butler committing a serving error to ice the Oakland victory. Anna Logan once again led the Butler attack with a team-high 22 kills to go along with 15 digs.

Anna Logan was the top offensive weapon for the Bulldogs, ending the match with a team-high 15 kills. Logan took 50 total swings to come up with her team-high 19 points.

BU hit .331 as a team and dominated action at the net with nine team blocks. Anna Logan posted a double-double with a team-high 15 kills to go along with her team-high 13 digs. Whitney Beck was in the box score with 11 kills while Bri Lilly posted nine. All three players hit for a high percentage, helping the 'Dawgs post their highest attack percentage of the season.

Anna Logan recorded a match-high 21 kills against WIU, posting a .613 attack percentage. She nearly equaled the Leathernecks total kill count of 23. Makayla Ferguson just missed a double-double with 34 assists and eight digs. Logan, Christina Porada and Brooke Gregory all added seven digs each.
 
 
Creighton (1-2) at the USC Radisson Classic (Los Angeles, Calif.)

Megan Ballenger paced Creighton with 11 kills in her first career start, adding six digs and two aces. Jess Bird finished with a double-double (10 kills, 10 digs), and Brittany Witt collected a team-high 15 digs. Lydia Dimke led CU with 38 assist.

Jaali Winters and Marysa Wilkinson each led CU with 10 kills, with Wilkinson hitting a team-best .360. Brittany Witt paced CU with 11 digs and three service aces. CU finished with 34 kills, 34 digs, four aces and three blocks on .142 hitting.
USC 3, No. 22 Creighton 2  (25-27, 25-23, 25-22, 19-25, 15-10| Full Recap
Despite the loss, Creighton had career-high performances from a number of Bluejays. Taryn Kloth (23), Marysa Wilkinson (16) and Megan Ballenger (14) all had career-highs in kills, while Lydia Dimke dished a career-best 63 assists. Dimke, who added 13 digs, as well as Jaali Winters (10 kills, 22 digs) both had their third double-doubles of 2016 in a valiant effort.

Four different Blue Demons reached double-figure kills with Brittany Maxwell leading the group with 14 over 27 attacks. Caitlyn Coffey and Jasmine King followed behind with 12, while Myah Reed finished with 11.

DePaul, moving to 3-2 on the year, handed Fresno State (5-1) its first loss of the year. It was an all-around effort for DePaul to earn the victory with five student-athletes reaching eight or more kills in the match. Brittany Maxwell led the Blue Demons with 12 kills.
Portland State 3, DePaul 1 (25-16, 25-23, 27-29, 25-22) | Full Recap
Despite the loss on Saturday, the Blue Demons were crowned the champions of the Bulldog Showdown, defeating Portland and Fresno State. Brittany Maxwell was named tournament MVP after leading the Blue Demons in kills for all three matches. Myah Reed and Haley Bueser join Maxwell on the All-Tournament Team. Maxwell finished Saturday’s match with a season-high 17 kills for the Blue Demons. Bueser finished the match with a season-high 16 digs. Colleen Smith and Kelsey Horvath combined for 48 assists to help the DePaul attack.
 
 
Georgetown (1-2) at the Stetson/USF Invitational (Tampa, Fla.)

Despite a career-high 27 kills from Alyssa Sinnette, GU lost a hard-fought match to the Owls.
Sinnette was the only Hoya in double figures in kills. Symone Speech finished with eight kills, a .368 hitting percentage and three total blocks, including two solo blocks.
Western Carolina 3, Georgetown 0 (27-25, 25-18, 25-15) | Full Recap
GU again only had one player in double figures and could not overcome a poor hitting percentage in a three-set loss to the Catamounts. Ashlie Williams was the lone Hoya in double figures, finishing with 10 kills and a .381 hitting percentage.

Behind the play of sophomore libero Kenzie Higareda and sophomore setter Paige McKnight, the Georgetown women’s volleyball team closed out play at the Stetson/USF Invitational with a straight-set win over Stetson.  In the win over the Hatters on Saturday, McKnight registered a game-high 38 assists and Higareda had a game-high 21 digs to lead the Hoyas.
 
 
Marquette (2-1) at the Shocker Volleyball Classic (Wichita, Kansas)
Marquette 3, IUPUI 0 (25-16, 25-14, 25-15) | Full Recap
Marquette was led by redshirt sophomore Taylor Louis with a match-high 18 kills and a .444 hitting percentage. Classmate Jenna Rosenthal and redshirt freshman Amanda Green also had strong attack performances with eight and six kills, respectively and no errors. As a team the Golden Eagles combined to hit .357, while holding IUPUI to just .079.
Marquette 3, Cincinnati 1 (25-21, 19-25, 25-20, 25-21) | Full Recap
Redshirt senior Meghan Niemann led three Marquette players in double digit kills with 15, while redshirt sophomore Taylor Louis tallied 14 kills and classmate Jenna Rosenthal posted 11. Rosenthal hit .550 with no errors as Louis notched a double-double adding 11 digs.
Wichita State 3, Marquette 0  (25-14, 25-22, 25-20) | Full Recap
Taylor Louis and Jenna Rosenthal earned all-tournament honors, but the Marquette University women's volleyball team concluded the Shocker Volleyball Classic with a loss to the host school Wichita State. Louis and Rosenthal led MU's offense with 13 and nine kills respectively in the match, while Louis posted her second double-double of the year adding 12 digs as she averaged 4.50 kills and 2.80 digs for the weekend.
 
 
Providence (4-0) at the Lafayette/Lehigh Tournament (Pennsylvania)

The Friars had an evenly spread out offense in the first match. Allison Impellizeri led the Friars with six kills (3.00 kills per set) while Abigail Dix had five kills (2.50 kills per set) and Kayla Fitzgerald and Megan Onyundo  had four kills each (4.00 kills per set).

The Friars second match of the day was a back and forth battle, as Lehigh took the first two sets before Providence battled back to win the final three sets and the earn the victory. Megan Onyundo led the Friars attack, recording 17 kills (3.4 kills per set). Impellizeri also had a strong match, recording 13 kills (2.6 kills per set). Setter Chicya Clark recorded a double double in the victory. Clark had 44 assists (8.8 assists per set) and 10 digs (2.0 digs per set). Cruz had 35 digs (7.0 digs per set) to support the Friars defensive efforts.

The Friars first match of the day was against Lafayette University. The Providence attack was led by Allison Impellizeri and Megan Onyundo who recorded 10 and nine kills respectively. Chicyia Clark had a strong game in the setter role, tallying 26 assists in the match. Defensive Specialist Michelle Cruz recorded 15 digs.

In the second match of the day, Impellizeri again led the Friar attack, recording 10 kills. The setter role was shared by Clark and Catherine Harding, who recorded 13 and 15 assists, respectively. Defensive Specialist Michelle Cruz again led the Friars with 15 digs.

The Red Storm was led by its three Italian born student-athletes, as Margherita Bianchin, Gaia Traballi, and Erica Di Maulo each registered double-doubles to keep the Johnnies undefeated. Bianchin showed her skills on both sides of the ball with 15 kills and 14 digs on Friday night. She also matched her career-high in block assists with eight.

After recording her first double-double of the season last night against Niagara, Margherita Bianchin was impressive once again posting a match-high 14 kills on an astounding .571 attacking percentage. The primary setter, Erica Di Maulo dished out a match-high 34 assists and was great at the service line logging a career-high four aces. Julia Cast, a junior, reached double-digits once again in the kill category with her 11 against the Explorers on a .400 hitting percentage. Coming off the bench and providing an impact was Lexie Lobdell, who recorded five digs and two assists. The Johnnies held La Salle to just .225 attacking percentage, while hitting at a .358 clip.

Erica Di Maulo, picked up her third double-double in four matches with a match-high 41 assists, while adding 11 digs against the Bearcats. She was named MVP of the Jack Kaiser Classic and is now averaging 11.8 assists and 3.05 digs on the year. Di Maulo, Margherita Bianchin and Gaia Traballi were all named to the All-Tournament team. Di Maulo was the MVP.
 
 
Seton Hall (2-1) hosting the Seton Hall Classic
George Washington 3, Seton Hall 1 (23-25, 22-25, 25-20, 23-25) | Full Recap
It was Seton Hall’s first-ever match against GW. Danielle Schroeder recorded a season-high 16 kills to go with two services aces and a .333 attack percentage. Caitlin Koska had the best all-around match of her career, tallying a career-high 13 kills.  She also had six digs, four blocks and a .310 attack percentage.

Sophomore Sophia Coffey  notched her first double-double of the season with 24 assists and 12 digs.

Sophomore Cherise Hennigan matched her career-high with 16 kills as Seton Hall topped previously unbeaten Towson, 3-1. Towson was 6-0 and a perfect 18-for-18 in sets before the Pirates used a dramatic comeback to stun them in set one. Danielle Schroeder recorded 12 kills and four digs. Schroeder and Tessa Fournier were named to the Seton Hall Classic All-Tournament Team.
 
Villanova (1-2) at The Invitational in Seattle (Seattle, Wash.)

Senior outside hitter Claire Crutchfield (Falls Church, Va. Bishop O’Connell), junior outside hitter Allie and sophomore middle blocker Amanda Pedersen-Henry each had 8 kills on the day to make up 24 of the Wildcats' 32 kills on the day. The Huskies were led on offense by Courtney Schwan and Tia Scambray, who both had double-figures in kills and hit above .500 in the match.
Villanova 3, Idaho 0 (25-23, 25-13, 25-22) | Full Recap
he offensive duo of Amanda Pedersen-Henry Allie Loitz  combined for 26 of the 45 Villanova kills on the day, as the Wildcats swept Idaho. Michaela Berendt hit a team-high .667 attack percentage with nine kills on 12 attempts and just one error while playing in her home state of Washington. As a whole, Villanova had their most efficient offensive match of the early-season, with a match-high .348 hitting percentage.

The Wildcats (3-3) trailed 2-0 before dominating the third set and led late in set-four, but a late run by the Redhawks (4-2) prevented the match going to a fifth set. Junior outside hitter Allie Loitz had her third double-double of the season with 11 kills and 10 digs. On defense, freshman Regan Lough and Allison Fitzgerald each reached double-figures in digs with 12 and 11 apiece.
 
 
Xavier (1-2) at the Dayton Invitational (Dayton, Ohio)

Abbey Bessler posted a match-high 17 kills, tying Dayton's Jessica Sloan who also had 17 kills. The two outside hitters were the only players who had 10 or more kills on the night.
Chattanooga 3, Xavier 1 (25-22, 23-25, 26-28, 22-25) | Full Recap
Abbey Bessler had a match-high 22 kills, the second time this season the outside hitter has recorded 20 or more kills. She now has 20 career games with 20 or more kills. Sofia Peterson was the only other player with 10 or more kills with 11. The senior also posted a .375 hitting percentage.
Xavier 3, Northwestern 0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-22) | Full Recap
Xavier had three players record 10 or more kills on Saturday evening as the Musketeers defeated Northwestern in three sets. Xavier had three players with 10 or more kills in a match for the second time this season with the other coming in the Musketeers' season opener versus Missouri State. Abbey Bessler recorded a match-high 13 kills to go along with 11 digs. The senior outside hitter also posted a .385 hitting percentage. Sofia Peterson and Kristen Massa both added 10 kills. Peterson posted a .474 hitting percentage and chipped in two blocks.
