NEW YORK – No.3 Connecticut claims two BIG EAST weekly awards for the first time this season.
BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Amanda Collins, UConn, So., F
With a hand in three goals, the sophomore guided the No.3 Huskies to a 7-2 victory over Drexel (RV) on Sunday. Against the Dragons, Collins scored her team-leading third goal of the season and added two assists for four total points. She also led the conference with seven shots this weekend.
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Casey Umstead, UConn, Jr., F
Pacing No.3 UConn’s defense in a 7-2 win over Drexel (RV), Umstead helped the Huskies outshoot the Dragons, 34-7. The forward also kept Drexel’s leading scorer from 2015, Idrienne Walker, scoreless for the entire matchup. Offensively, the junior recorded a game-high two goals, off a penalty corner and an assist from Amanda Collins, respectively.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Allison Schaefer
, Liberty, Fr., GK
Anchoring No. 13 Liberty’s defense against reigning national champion, No.2 Syracuse, Schaefer registered her second double-digit save performance of the season with 10 saves. Facing 14 shots-on-goal, the goalkeeper limited a 5.00 goals-per-game Syracuse squad to a season-low three goals in the overtime matchup.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Serena Barr, Liberty Fr., D
Aided No. 13 Liberty’s defense in holding reigning national champion, No.2 Syracuse, to only one goal in the game’s first 67 minutes and season-low three goals overall. She tallied her first goal of the season to give Liberty a lead (2-1) over the Orange in the second half.
Adrienne Houle, Providence, Sr., MF
The veteran led the Friars to a 2-0 record last week as she picked up an assist in the Friars' 3-1 victory over Vermont on Friday and a scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory versus Bryant on Sunday.
Casey Dolan, Old Dominion, Sr., F
The senior scored a thrilling diving goal past Delaware’s outstretched goalkeeper in overtime to complete No. 20 ODU’s, 3-2, overtime upset over No. 14 Delaware.
Erin Huffman, Old Dominion, Fr., F
The rookie registered her second career goal in No. 20 ODU’s 3-2 OT upset win over No. 14 Delaware.
Katie Foran, Temple, Sr., F
Helped the Owls to a 3-2 come-from-behind win over La Salle with two goals, including the game-winner.
