#BEfutbol Minute – Thursday Night Futbol Kicks Off Final Non-Conference Weekend

NEW YORK – Butler takes the lead in the #BEfutbol standings with an unbeaten record of 2-0-1. The Bulldogs entered the NSCAA Top 25 this week, checking in at No. 19. Two games on tap for Thursday night as Villanova and St. John's kick off the final weekend of non-conference play with Navy and Princeton, respectively.
Non-Conference Breakdown
Last weekend saw the most games against the ACC. The BIG EAST went 1-3-1 against the Atlantic Coast Conference. This weekend, Thursday through Sunday will have the most games played against the American and the Patriot League.
Overall, #BEfutbol will have 15 matches against nine different conferences. The breakdown is: American (3), Patriot (3), Summit (2), Ivy (2), Atlantic 10 (1), Big West (1), Colonial (1), Pac 12 (1) and Sun Belt (1). Five of the opponents are those that other conference teams have already faced. The BIG EAST has compiled a 14-15-7 non-conference record after two full weeks of play.
The Schedule Ahead – One Week Left Before League Play
There will be matches on four consecutive days, starting Thursday afternoon with Navy at Villanova. Thursday night has St. John’s at Princeton. Friday, Saturday and Sunday have four matches on each day. Monday is a dark day on the schedule and matches resume Tuesday with three on the docket.
The highlight of last weekend was a 2-1 upset victory for Villanova at then-No. 11/6 Boston College.
For Fans Around The League This Weekend
There is a lot for futbol fans to get excited about at the BIG EAST venues this weekend.
- Friday night at Creighton is the annual Socctoberfest with glass steins, brats, sauerkraut and soccer.
- Saturday afternoon at Georgetown the Hoyas are celebrating the Hot Dog’s designation as a sandwich. All fans who dress like a hot dog get free admission to the game.
- At Seton Hall on Saturday, the Pirates are lacing up in the fight against cancer. Fans wearing yellow or gold will receive a free gift card to a local food chain, visit www.Go4TheGoal.com.
- On Sunday at St. John’s, the Red Storm will have a special tribute to September 11th with a Red Storm Remembers 9/11 t-shirt giveaway. It is also Camper Reunion Night.
- Similarly on Sunday at DePaul, the Blue Demons are celebrating Patriot Day and the Danny Did Foundation. Postgame will feature a Blue Demons autograph session.
