BIG EAST Notes - 1.20 Update
Head-To-Head Matchups To Watch
Yoyo Nogic, Providence vs. Kaela Hilaire, Seton Hall: Nogic, one of the top three-point threats in the league, has been contained in her last two outings, knocking down just two triples in setbacks to Georgetown and Creighton. The sophomore hits nearly 47 percent of her attempts from deep, however, with eight games this year with four-or-more made threes. Hilaire is also due for a big game as well after being held to single-digit points for the first time in five games last week at Georgetown. The rookie playmaker averages 4.6 dimes per game with eight showings of five or more assists this season. The two tangle on FS2 tonight at 7 p.m. (ET).
Brianna Rollerson, Creighton vs. Jade Walker, St. John’s: Though neither was a headliner in the 2016 BIG EAST Tournament title game, it’s a different story this season. Rollerson has posted double-doubles in two of her last three games, including 17 points, 13 rebounds against Georgetown (1/8). Walker has found her scoring groove, entering Friday’s tilt as the BIG EAST’s No. 2 scorer in conference play at 18.9 per game. The teams split the regular-season series last year but the Red Storm had the last laugh by topping the Bluejays for the 2016 BIG EAST crown. Tipoff is 7 p.m. on the BIG EAST Digital Network.
Adrianna Hahn, Villanova vs. Sydney Buck, Butler: Hahn has been unstoppable as of late, averaging 19.3 points and 60-percent shooting in three-straight wins for the Wildcats. Buck is still shaking off some rust after missing 12 games between mid-November through early January. The junior guard will be counted on even more now that rookie guard Kristen Spolyar will miss the remainder of the season. Buck posted nine points and a season-high six assists at Marquette on Sunday. The Wildcats and Bulldogs tip at 7 p.m. on BEDN.
Dorothy Adomako, Georgetown vs. Raeshaun Gaffney, Xavier: Two of the top scorers in the BIG EAST tangle on FS1 tonight at 8 p.m., both trying to break their respective teams free of a three-way tie in the standings. Adomako is on a six-game double-digit scoring streak as the Hoyas have won two of their last three. Gaffney enters the contest on a five-game double-digit scoring streak and ranks third in the BIG EAST with her 15.7 points per game average. Both players recently eclipsed the 1,000 career points mark.
Up Next
The lone Saturday night tilt will be a good one as No. 19/18 DePaul hosts Marquette at 8 p.m. (ET) on BEDN. The two highest scoring teams in the BIG EAST, who combine for over 161 points per game meet for the first time this season, with the Blue Demons carrying a 10-game winning streak and the Golden Eagles winning their last three. DePaul’s Brooke Schulte has been on a tear, averaging 21.6 points per game in league play to lead the BIG EAST, while Marquette’s Allazia Blockton is the conference’s top scorer overall at 17.2 over 19 games this season.
