Butler handed Seton Hall its first home loss of the season Wednesday and moved into a first-place tie in the league standings despite a record rebound performance by the Pirates’ Angel Delgado. 

The Bulldogs are 7-2 in BIG EAST play and tied with Villanova for the top spot after a gritty 61-54 win at Prudential Center.    With the scored tied 49-49 with 4:49 left, Butler went on a 9-0 run to secure the victory.  Andrew Chrabascz scored a game-high 16 points and guard Kethan Savage added 15 points and 10 rebounds.  Seton Hall’s Angel Delgado became the first player in BIG EAST history to have two straight games of 20 rebounds or more.  He finished 22 boards and scored 12 points.  Delgado had 20 rebounds in Sunday’s win against St. John’s.

Georgetown held visiting Creighton to a season-low point total in its 71-51 victory.  The Bluejays went into the game averaging 87.1 ppg.  L.J. Peak led the Hoyas with 20 points and five assists and Rodney Pryor contributed 18 points and six assists.  Justin Patton led Creighton with 20 points, seven rebounds and two blocks.  The Bluejays were only 1-of-18 rom 3-point range and lost for the first time this season away from home in nine outings.

St. John’s scored the last six points of the game and won 91-86 at Providence.  The freshman guard duo of Marcus LoVett and Shamorie Ponds struck again for the Red Storm.  LoVett scored 26 points and Ponds added 22 points.  They combined to shoot 12-of-12 from the foul line.  The Friars lost despite shooting 62.0 percent from the floor.  Dependable Rodney Bullock led PC with 20 points, eight rebounds and three steals.

On Thursday night, Xavier plays at Cincinnati in the rivalry called the Crosstown Shootout.  This year, it’s also a battle of ranked AP teams with the No. 24 Musketeers (14-5) playing at the No. 19 Bearcats (17-2).  Xavier has won seven of the last nine and 14 of the last 20 meetings with Cincinnati.  ESPN2 has the game at 7 p.m. ET.
