Xavier’s Trevon Bluiett had a career game with 40 points, which included 9-of-11 from 3-point range, but the Musketeers could not beat Cincinnati in the Crosstown Shootout, losing 86-78 on Thursday.  Bluiett made 12-of-15 from the field and eclipsed his previous career scoring high of 27 points.  It was the first time a Xavier player scored 40 points in a game since David West had 47 against Dayton on Feb. 8, 2003.

The BIG EAST weekend schedule shows three games on Saturday and two on Sunday.

Marquette, coming off its 74-72 win over No. 1/2 Villanova on Tuesday, hosts Providence at 2 p.m. ET on FSN.  Marquette is 5-3 in league play, its best start through eight games since the 2011-12 team began 6-2.  Providence wants to end a two-game slide after a 91-86 home loss to St. John’s.

Creighton also wants to end a two-game losing streak when it hosts DePaul on FS1 at 2:30 p.m.  The No. 16/16 Bluejays, who are coming off a 71-51 loss at Georgetown, have taken nine of the last 10 meetings against the Blue Demons.  DePaul is 1-6 in BIG EAST play, but its two losses to ranked league opponents (Villanova and Butler) have come by a total of four points.

Butler, ranked 11th in both national polls, hosts Georgetown at 8 p.m. on CBS Sports Network.  The Bulldogs are 6-2 in conference play, their best start since joining the BIG EAST in 2013-14.  In the first meeting between the teams on Jan. 7, Butler prevailed 85-76 in overtime.  Georgetown’s Rodney Pryor led all scorers with 23 points.

In the last non-conference game this season for a BIG EAST team, Villanova will host No. 12/13 Virginia in a sold-out Wells Fargo Center Sunday at 1 p.m. on FOX.  Xavier will meet St. John’s at Madison Square Garden at 6 p.m. on FS1.
