#BEfútbol Minute – National Rankings, Early Week Recaps
NEW YORK – Midweek non-conference play continued this week as Georgetown hosted Duke in a Monday afternoon top 25 showdown and Butler, Creighton and St. John’s were all in action on Tuesday night. Creighton has highlighted the week for BIG EAST men’s soccer so far this week with a 6-1 victory over Drake. The six goals were a league high so far this year.
Georgetown and St. John’s lost in one-goal decisions as the Hoyas lost 2-1 to Duke at home and St. John’s lost 1-0 to Princeton on the road. Butler lost 2-0 to SIUE. The last time these two teams played each other was in the second round of last year’s NCAA Tournament.
In action on Wednesday night are DePaul and Providence. Both teams host in-city rivals. DePaul hosts Northwestern, Providence hosts Brown.
BIG EAST in the RPI
The BIG EAST is currently ranked sixth in the conference RPI with three teams in the top 50 with Butler leading the way at No. 12. Georgetown has jumped Creighton close behind Butler at No. 15. Creighton is No. 27. Xavier and St. John’s represent the BIG EAST in the 50s, ranking 52nd and 54th, respectively. National Poll Notes
The United Soccer Coaches released their Week 6 National Poll and Regional rankings on Tuesday. Georgetown once again advanced in the poll moving from 10th to No. 9 on Monday after defeating Butler, 3-0 last week. Butler remains ranked at No. 20, down five spots from their No. 15 ranking last week.
Regional Rankings:
In the regional rankings, the BIG EAST continues to have five teams in the top 10 of the Great Lakes Region, led by Georgetown at No. 1. Butler remains third in the Great Lakes Region with Creighton fifth and Xavier sixth. St. John’s clocks in at No. 7.
Also ranked in the Great Lakes Region are Western Michigan (2), Akron (4), Wright State (8), West Virginia (9) and Detroit-Mercy (10).
Midweek In #BEfútbol – 10.11.17
No. 19 Duke 2, No. 10 GEORGETOWN
Duke scored first in the 25th minute and led 1-0 through halftime. Georgetown’s Derek Dodson tied it up in the 66th minute. Dodson put back a rebound from Dylan Nealis’ original shot. Duke quickly made it 2-1 in the 68th minute. Georgetown outshot Duke 19-8. But the Duke keeper Will Pulisic made eight saves to preserve the Blue Devils’ victory.

CREIGHTON 6, Drake 1
Creighton tied the Morrison Stadium for goal in a match with six on Tuesday night as the Bluejays advanced to 7-4-1 on the season. It was the third time Creighton scored six goals at home. Marios Lomis scored twice, while Connor Ramlo, Ricky Lopez-Espin, Joel Rydstrand and Lucas Stauffer each had one goal apiece. It was the final non-conference regular season match for Creighton this season.

Princeton 1, ST. JOHN’S 0
After 85 minutes of scoreless action at Roberts Stadium, Princeton's Jeremy Colvin broke the late deadlock and lifted the Tigers to a 1-0 victory over St. John's on Tuesday night. Despite playing just 47 minutes, Harry Cooksley led the Red Storm (5-5-2, 2-1-1 BIG EAST) with seven shots on the evening, five of which were on target. The senior from London nearly knotted the contest at one aside with less than two minutes to go, but Princeton freshman Sam Morton turned away the point-blank try from just outside the six-yard box. It was the final non-conference regular season match for St. John’s this season.

S.I.U.E. 2, No. 20 BUTLER 0
Butler fell, 2-0, Tuesday night at SIUE in a non-conference match-up between 2016 NCAA Tournament teams. The win was the third straight for SIUE, which improves to 6-6 on the season. Butler, which entered the match ranked No. 20 nationally in the United Soccer Coaches poll, falls to 7-4 on the season, surrendering their second consecutive game. The Cougars got a goal in the 17th minute from Mohamed Awad and a second goal in the 61st minute from Devyn Jambga.
