NEW YORK  –  Both Seton Hall and St. John’s earned W’s last night as the Pirates move into third place behind Marquette and Creighton with a 5-3 BIG EAST record. The Red Storm advanced to 3-5. The wins came at the expense of Villanova and Georgetown. The Wildcats had previously been on a 4-0 winning streak. Georgetown has now lost four in a row.
 
Volleyball resumes action on Friday with two games on the schedule. Xavier plays at Providence at 7 p.m. Then No. 17 Creighton hosts Butler at 8 p.m. ET on BEDN.  
 
Seton Hall 3, Villanova 1 (25-22,25-22,19-25,25-23)  
Seton Hall senior Sharay Barnes and junior Abby Thelen combined for 33 kills and just four attack errors as the Seton Hall defeated Villanova in four sets, 3-1 (25-22, 25-22, 19-25, 25-23), on Wednesday. Barnes was fabulous registering a season-high with 17 kills, just two attack errors and a team-best .577 attack percentage.  Thelen added 16 kills, only two attack errors and a .359 attack percentage.  She also had three blocks. Mason had a double-double with 12 kills and a career-high 21 digs.

St. John's 3, Georgetown 0 (25-16,25-15,25-15)  
After recording a five set victory on the road at Xavier in its previous contest, the Red Storm kept the momentum going with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-15) triumph over BIG EAST foe Georgetown at Carnesecca Arena on Wednesday night as sophomore Erica Di Maulo reached the 2,000 assist plateau. St. John’s (11-12, 3-5 BIG EAST) registered its second straight conference victory and cruised to its eighth straight win against the Hoyas (7-12, 1-6 BIG EAST) behind the tremendous defensive effort put up by the Johnnies. The Red Storm held the Hoyas’ attack to just a .022 hitting percentage for the lowest all season St. John’s has allowed.
