BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Darian Powell, Marquette, Grad., F
Powell scored the match winner in overtime against Xavier on Saturday evening in the pouring rain. The graduate student now has a team-high five tallies in 2017 and 23 goals in her career, putting her eighth in program history. Powell’s Senior Night goal was also the 10th career match winner, tying her with current MU assistant coach Ashley Bares for sixth in MU history.
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Jesse Schaefer, St. John’s, Sr., D
Schaefer anchored the back line as St. John’s shutout Seton Hall, 1-0, Saturday evening. The Red Storm has now held its opponents to one goal or less in 12 of the squad’s 15 matches. St. John’s limited the Pirates to just five shots and just one on goal to pick up its second BIG EAST win of the season.
BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week
McKenzie Meola, Creighton, So., GK
Meola repeats as top goaltender after making six saves in a 1-0 win over Villanova on Sunday. The sophomore’s afternoon was highlighted by denying a Wildcat penalty corner with 2:10 left in regulation to keep Villanova off the scoreboard. The victory was Creighton’s first in BIG EAST play this season as the Bluejays remained in contention for a spot in the conference postseason.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Caitlyn DiSarcina, Butler, Fr., F
DiSarcina gave the Bulldogs an early 1-0 lead at DePaul on Sunday, notching her team-leading sixth goal of the season less than three minutes into the contest. The Blue Demons would respond as the game ended in a 1-1 draw, with Butler picking up its 12
th point of the season to land in second in the BIG EAST standings.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Christina Bellero, St. John’s, Jr., F
The junior added to her team-leading point total with her sixth goal of the season in the 68th minute in a 1-0 win over Seton Hall on Saturday.
Franny Cerny, DePaul, Jr., F
Cerny’s team-best eighth goal of the season came in the 17
th minute to tie RV Butler. The game would remain a 1-1 draw as DePaul picked up its sixth point of the BIG EAST season.
Leonie Doege, Butler, Fr., GK
Doege played 65 minutes of scoreless soccer at DePaul on Sunday, coming into the 1-1 game at the start of the second half and playing that period and the two overtime frames. Doege made six saves, including three in overtime to preserve the draw.
Kaira Houser, Creighton, Jr., F
Houser scored the game-winning goal in the 89
th minute against Villanova to lead Creighton to its first league victory of the season.
Jordan Kamp, St. John’s, Fr., GK
Kamp made one save and helped manage a strong defensive effort in a 1-0 win over Seton Hall. The rookie picked up her fifth win and third shutout of the season.
