BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Tori Doss, Xavier, R-Sr., F
Doss led the offensive effort to push Xavier to its first 3-0 start to BIG EAST play, having a hand in both game-winning goals last week as the Musketeers scored back-to-back 1-0 victories. Against Providence on Thursday, the redshirt senior scored the game winner in the 13
th minute. She followed that by assisting on freshman Sydney Schembri’s game winner at Villanova on Sunday in the 65
th minute.
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Elizabeth Wenger, Georgetown, Sr., D
Wenger led the stifling Georgetown defense last week which limited opponents to just six total shots and just three on target in a pair of large-margin victories. The 17
th-ranked Hoyas scored a 4-0 win at DePaul, outshooting the Blue Demons 17-2, before shutting out Seton Hall on Sunday, 5-0, limiting the Pirates to just one shot on goal. In the 2-0 week, Georgetown outshot its foes 44-6, 22-3 on target, and allowed just one corner kick.
BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week
Toni Bizzarro, Xavier, So., GK
Bizzarro was flawless in Xavier’s 2-0 week, totaling 11 saves in 180 minutes of work in victories over Providence and at Villanova. Against the Friars on Thursday, the sophomore denied eight shots in the 1-0 victory before following that with a three-save showing against the Wildcats in another 1-0 clean sheet. Bizzarro improved to 7-4-1 on the season while bumping her conference-only save percentage to .929 and lowering her goals against average to 0.33.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Jenna Menta, Georgetown, Fr., F
Menta sparked the impressive Georgetown offense last week with two goals and an assist in wins over DePaul and Seton Hall. The rookie assisted on Amanda Carolan’s insurance goal in the 43
rd minute against the Blue Demons on Thursday before back-to-back goals less than a minute apart against the Pirates on Sunday.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Christina Bellero, St. John’s, Jr., F
Bellero scored the game winner in the second overtime period on Thursday against Creighton, finding the back of the net in the 105
th minute for her team-leading fifth goal of the season. Bellero totaled five shots in a pair of close contests last week for the Red Storm.
Amanda Carolan, Georgetown, R-So., F
Carolan was the league’s goals leader with three in a 2-0 week for the 17
th-ranked Hoyas. She tallied two goals in a 4-0 win at DePaul on Thursday before adding a score in Georgetown’s 5-0 win over Seton Hall on Sunday.
Franny Cerny, DePaul, Jr., F
Cerny scored both goals in the Blue Demons’ 2-0 win at Creighton on Sunday while totaling eight shots in DePaul’s 1-1 week.
Emily Kuefler, Villanova, Sr., D
Kuefler was active on both sides of the field last week as the Wildcats outscored their opponents by a combined 4-2 margin. The senior led Villanova to its first win over Marquette in series history, scoring a pair of goals while registering five shots on Thursday night.
Paige Monaghan, Butler, Jr., F
Monaghan’s week was highlighted by a three-point outing in Sunday’s 2-1 double-overtime win at Providence. The junior scored the game’s first goal in the 13
th minute before assisting on Caitlyn DiSarcina’s game winner in the 109
th minute to stretch the Bulldogs’ unbeaten streak to 10 games.
