BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Christopher Lema, Georgetown, Sr., M (Ridgefield, N.J.)
Georgetown senior midfielder Christopher Lema had a five-point week in two wins for the Hoyas last week. Lema’s two goals and an assist led the league in points and goals. Lema’s two goals came in the 3-0 win over Seton Hall on Saturday as he scored the first goal in the eighth minute and the third goal in the 56th. Lema also assisted the game-winning goal against then-No. 3 Maryland last Tuesday in non-league action. Lema is third on the Hoyas in scoring with 10 points (4G, 2A) for the year.
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Eric Leonard, Butler, Sr., M (Palatine, Ill.)
Butler senior Eric Leonard filled in where he was needed this week as the usual midfielder played on the backline in both of the Bulldogs matches this week. Leonard anchored the back line from the center back positon as Butler tied the top-ranked Hoosiers, 0-0 then shut out Villanova 1-0 in league action. Leonard and the Butler defense limited IU to only eight shots. Against the Wildcats, Butler would only allow seven shots, where Leonard paired as a co-center back. For the week, Butler held opponents scoreless for 200 minutes of action.
BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week
JT Marcinkowski, Georgetown, Jr., GK (Alamo, Texas)
Georgetown keeper JT Marcinkowski had a 13-save, two shutout week for the Hoyas, keeping GU on the top of the league standings. His stats in goal led the conference in saves, saves per game (6.50), save percentage (1.000), goals against average (0.00) and shutouts (2). In Georgetown’s win over Seton Hall on Saturday, Marcinkowski stopped five Pirate shots on goal to maintain the shutout. On Tuesday against then-No. 3 Maryland, Marcinkowski had a season-high eight shots on the road to preserve a one-goal win for GU and end Maryland’s 30-match regular season home winning streak.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Jacob Montes, Georgetown, Fr., M (Lake Worth, Fla.)
Hoya rookie Jacob Montes had a three-point week for Georgetown, ending the Hoyas win streak to three matches. Montes scored the game-winning goal, his first goal of the season, at then-No. 3 Maryland on Tuesday, netting the goal in the 88th minute. Montes added an assist in Georgetown’s win against Seton Hall, assisting fellow freshman Derek Dodson’s goal in the 11th minute.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Eric Dick, Butler, RS-Sr., GK (Carmel, Ind.)
Dick had a two-shutout week for Butler, against top-ranked Indiana and Villanova helping preserve the Bulldogs in the top of the league standings. Dick had three total saves for the week in 200 minutes of action.
Colin Miller, Providence, RS-Jr., GK (Bel Air, Md.)
Miller saved all six shots he faced in a match at home against Creighton, earning his third shutout of the season and a point for Providence in the league standings.
Andrew Withers, St. John’s, RS-Jr., GK (Wellington, New Zealand)
Withers made five saves to preserve a 1-0 win for St. John’s against DePaul, helping the Red Storm to gain sole control of third place in the league standings.
Josh Grant, Xavier, Sr., D (Cincinnati, Ohio)
Grant scored the game-winning goal in XU’s 1-0 win over Marquette on Saturday, scoring unassisted in the 49th minute. The win helped Xavier get back to .500 in league play and in fourth place with nine points.
Colin Hanley, Xavier, Jr., GK (Mandeville, La.)
Made his first appearance in goal this season with two saves to for a shutout in Xavier’s 1-0 win over Marquette. Saw 10 shots and six corners.
