#BIGEASTvb Minute: Five Matches Highlight Friday’s Start To Weekend Play
Volleyball Notes - 10.27 (PDF)
NEW YORK – Friday features all 10 BIG EAST volleyball teams in action as Marquette plays at St. John’s, DePaul is at Seton Hall, Villanova visits Butler, No. 16 Creighton plays at Providence and Georgetown visits Xavier.
On Saturday, most of the travel partners swap with the exceptions of Creighton and Providence and Georgetown and Butler. Creighton will play at Providence again on Saturday, working off last season’s play two games in one weekend at the same site formula instead of a home-and-home schedule. Instead of playing on Saturday, Georgetown will play at Butler on Sunday afternoon.
Change At The Top
On a five-match win streak, Creighton, nationally ranked 16th in the country for the second-straight week, regained the top spot in the league rankings with eight matches to play. The Bluejays have a 9-1 record going into a weekend where they will play their travel partner, Providence, twice. Marquette had a rare loss at home last week, a five-set thriller against Butler to fall to 9-2 in the league standings. The Golden Eagles had held the top spot in the conference since the start of league play. Marquette was alone at the top since defeating then-No. 12 Creighton, 3-0 on Oct. 5.
Teams On the Rise
Three BIG EAST teams have win streaks at steak this weekend. Creighton has won its last five matches, Villanova and Butler have put together three match win streaks, with the Wildcats playing just one match last week and Butler going 2-0 against DePaul and Marquette. Villanova will play at Butler on Friday night, so one of those streaks will end and one will advance to four.

DEPAUL at ST. JOHN’S (10/28 at 4 p.m. ET/3 p.m. CT)
St. John’s and DePaul meet for the second time this season, this time at Carnesecca Arena for a Red Storm home match. St. John’s is currently seventh in the league with a 4-7 record, while DePaul sits in ninth at 2-9. One of those two victories for the Blue Demons is a 3-2 win over St. John’s (Sept. 22). Claire Anderson had a match-high 22 kills to lead the Blue Demons. Brittany Maxwell had 18 and Caitlyn Coffey and Myah Reed each had 11. For St. John’s, Julia Cast had 21 kills, but she was the lone player in double-digit kills. SJU sophomore setter Erica DiMaulo had a double-double with 48 assists, 15 digs. Last week, St. John’s was the first team this season to win a set against Creighton in Omaha. St. John’s owns a 13-6 all-time series record against DePaul overall.
