BIG EAST Notes - 10.3.17
Corboz Among College Leaders
With a goal and two assists last week, Georgetown senior midfielder Rachel Corboz moved into a group of just nine active Division I players to boast 30 goals and 20 assists in their careers. Corboz, who is already the NCAA’s active career leader in dishes with 38, created some space on that list last week with her pair of helpers, leading the next closest player by six assists. With five points last week, Corboz moved up from sixth to fourth on the active career points list with 98. Only two Hoyas have previously reached the 100-point mark in their careers, including Corboz’s older sister Daphne, who is the program’s all-time leader with 131 (47g, 37a). The younger Corboz passed her older sister in assists last week, with Rachel’s 38 ranking second all-time on the Hilltop. Two-time BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year Ingrid Wells has the Hoya record for assists with 46.
In The Polls
Following a pair of large-margin wins, Georgetown climbed five spots in the United Soccer Coaches Poll this week to No. 12. The Hoyas improved to 9-2-1 on the year, including 3-0-0 in BIG EAST play while stretching their shutout streak to over 650 minutes. Following a 1-0-1 week, Butler continued to receive votes. The Bulldogs are unbeaten over their last 10 games, including a 2-0-1 league mark. GU is the top team in the Midwest Regional Poll, followed by Butler in sixth and Marquette in 14
th. In the latest NCAA RPI, Georgetown continued to lead the league, coming in at No. 34, followed by Marquette at No. 45 and Butler at No. 58. With its 3-0-0 start to BIG EAST play, Xavier made the most notable leap on the week, catapulting to No. 72, a 35-spot jump from last Monday.

Musketeers Making Moves
Xavier is off to its finest start since joining the BIG EAST as winners of three straight to open league play, including back-to-back shutout victories. Just three games into the conference schedule, Xavier has matched its highest BIG EAST win total, which dates back to 2015 when the Musketeers went 3-6-0. XU is 3-0 in league play for the first time since 1997 when it was a member of the Atlantic-10. Xavier is under the direction of first-year head coach Nate Lie, who spent the last four seasons at the University of Cincinnati.

NCAA Stat Update
Despite Providence’s Katie Day ending RV Butler’s nine-game shutout streak, the Bulldogs climbed the NCAA statistical rankings this week in impressive fashion. Butler enters the fourth round of BIG EAST play with Division I’s top goals against average (0.158), shutout percentage (0.833) and save percentage (0.960). Individually, Hannah Luedtke is the national leader in GAA (0.154) and save percentage (0.962), as Luedtke and Leonie Doege are the stingiest 1-2 punch in goal in the BIG EAST. No. 12 Georgetown and its veteran keeper Arielle Schechtman are also among the best in the nation. The Hoyas are tied with Butler for top shutout percentage while Schechtman’s 10 clean sheets are the most among D1 keepers. Georgetown’s 8.83 corner kicks per game are also the most in Division I.
