BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Lewis Suddick, Butler, So., M/F (Newcastle upon Tyne, England)
Butler sophomore Lewis Suddick earns his second offensive player of the week honor after a four-point week which helped the Bulldogs lock up the 2017 BIG EAST Regular Season title. Butler outscored its opponents, 4-1, last week, with both matches on the road. Suddick played a role in three of the four goals. He scored the game-winner at Seton Hall Wednesday night, which was his fifth goal of the season and his fourth game-winner. Suddick assisted on both of Butler’s goals at Marquette Saturday night, serving up a free kick that Joe Moulden headed in and finding Brandon Guhl up the right side for the team’s second goal 40 seconds later. He has seven assists this season, tied for tops in the BIG EAST.
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
David Enstrom, St. John’s, Sr., M (Stockholm, Sweden)
St. John’s senior David Enstrom earns his second defensive player of the week accolade after helping the Red Storm to a 2-0-0 week behind a defensive performance that held then-No. 10 Georgetown scoreless and one PK goal by Villanova. Enstrom helped limit the Hoyas to just two shots on goal and the Wildcats to just five. The game against the Wildcats went to double overtime. Additionally, Enstrom headed in the game-winning (31st minute) in the 1-0 victory for the Red Storm over Georgetown, which secured SJU’s first BIG EAST championship berth since 2012.
BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week
Colin Miller, Providence, RS-Jr., GK (Bel Air, Md.)
Friar keeper Colin Miller had a 1-0-1 week in goal for Providence, ranking first in the BIG EAST last week in goals against average (0.45) and second in save percentage (0.900). Miller marked nine saves for the week including two in a 0-0 double overtime draw on the road at then-No. 10 Georgetown. Miller then marked seven saves at Villanova, helping preserve a 2-1 Friar lead throughout a scoreless second period. Four of his saves came in the final 30 minutes of action. Miller’s work in net helped keep the Friars in the playoff picture with one match left to play.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Samuel Buzzas, Xavier, RS-Fr., D (Bend, Ore.)
Xavier freshman defender Samuel Buzzas scored the game-tying goal with 1:56 left on the clock against Seton Hall to send the Musketeers to OT, where XU would eventually win 3-2 and secure a BIG EAST championship berth. Buzzas started both matches in a 2-0-0 week for Xavier, who shut out DePaul earlier in the week.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Eric Dick, Butler, RS-Sr., GK (Carmel, Ind.)
Dick had another impressive week in goal for the BIG EAST champion Butler Bulldogs. Dick posted a 0.50 goals against average and a .933 save percentage which led the league last week. He allowed just one goal and made 14 total saves, five in the 2-0 win over Seton Hall and nine in the 2-1 victory over Marquette.
Ricky Lopez-Espin, Creighton, Sr., Jr. (Miami, Fla.)
Lopez-Espin had a three-point week with one goal and one assist all in the 2-0 victory against DePaul. His goal was the eventual game-winner and he assisted on the insurance tally.
Luka Prpa, Marquette, So., M (Wind Lake, Wis.)
Prpa had a four-point week with a school-record four assists in the Golden Eagles 4-3 victory over Creighton. Prpa had the assist on each of Marquette’s goals.
Filippo Ricupati, St. John’s, Jr., F (Milan, Italy)
Ricupati scored both goals in the 2-1 come-from-behind win over Villanova, including the game-winning tally four minutes into double-overtime. Ricupati’s game-tying goal became the No. 9 play on ESPN SportsCenter’s Top 10.
Matt Vasquenza, Xavier, Sr., F (East Hampton, Conn.)
Scored the golden goal in the 94th minute to defeat Seton Hall 3-2 on senior night, clinching Xavier’s spot in the upcoming BIG EAST Championship.
