The final day of the 2017 Men’s Soccer regular season kicks off at 1 p.m. ET on Wednesday.

Final Regular Season Weekly Notes - 11.1.17 (PDF)

NEW YORK  –
Wednesday is #BracketDay as two open spots remain for three teams in the BIG EAST men’s soccer playoff picture: Creighton, Providence and Marquette. The only team that is sure of their position for the upcoming week is Butler, as the Bulldog won the No. 1 seed and the 2017 regular season title with a 2-1 win over Marquette on Saturday.

St. John’s, Georgetown and Xavier all clinched playoff berths last week and cannot finish any lower than fourth and will host either the first round or receive a bye to the semifinals as the host and No. 2 seed. St. John’s defeated both Georgetown and Xavier during the year. Xavier defeated Georgetown as well.

The final day of the 2017 season kicks off at 1 p.m. with Marquette at DePaul. At 2 p.m., Georgetown hosts Creighton. The rest of the matches are at 7 p.m. with Xavier at Butler, Villanova at Seton Hall and St. John’s at Providence.

The official #BracketDay live show will air at 6:30 p.m. ET on Facebook Live. Stories from all five sites will be available on the BIG EAST Instagram.

Wednesday ON @BIGEASTdigital #BracketDay
The final BIG EAST standings and championship seeding will be determined on Wednesday with games starting at 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Eastern and continuing with three matches at 7 p.m. ET. DePaul hosting Marquette starts the day at 1 p.m. ET. Marquette is in the running for a potential playoff spot, but the Golden Eagles do not determine their own fate. Marquette and Providence are tied at 10 points. The Friars and Golden Eagles tied eachother earlier in the season. Marquette has advantages with wins over St. John’s and Creighton, but lost to Georgetown and Xavier. Marquette’s fate could be decided on where those teams finish. Always a competitive match, Creighton travels to No. 18 Georgetown at 2 p.m. at Shaw Field. The Hoyas are looking at either No. 2 or No. 3 seed with a win.  A win for Creighton will clinch the No. 5 seed in the tournament for the Bluejays. Georgetown cannot finish any lower than fourth. Should Creighton lose or tie, CU can make it in at either the No. 5 or No. 6 seeds, but will have to wait out results from the other games. Marquette losing in the 1 p.m. game will result in Creighton clinching. In a Marquette tie and Creighton loss scenario, Marquette has the advantage with a 4-3 win over Creighton last week. At 7 p.m., St. John’s travels to Providence, Xavier visits Butler and Villanova plays at Seton Hall. St. John’s needs a win for the No. 2 seed. Xavier can be the No. 2 seed with a win and losses or ties by St. John’s and Georgetown. Xavier has the advantage over the Hoyas with a 1-0 victory on Sept. 16. St. John’s also has the advantage over Georgetown and Xavier with wins during the season. Should Xavier tie with Butler and St. John’s and Georgetown lose, based on tie-breaker procedures, the Red Storm would be the No. 2 seed, followed by No. 3 Xavier and No. 4 Georgetown. Providence can clinch one of the final two playoff spots with a win over the Red Storm.

Butler Wins BIG EAST Regular Season Title
The Butler Bulldogs secured the No. 1 seed in the upcoming BIG EAST Championship presented by Jeep with a 2-1 victory on the road at Marquette. The Bulldogs go into the final Wednesday with a 7-1-0 league record, with its only loss at Georgetown, 3-0 on Oct. 6. Seven BIG EAST wins are the most for the Bulldogs since joining the league in 2013. The No. 1 seed Bulldogs currently have 21 points heading into final day of games. The BIG EAST regular season prior champs in the last four years were: Providence (2016, 7-2-0); Georgetown (2015, 9-0-0, 2013, 6-2-1); Creighton (2014, 7-1-1) and Marquette (2013, 6-2-1).

Georgetown Picked As Overall 9 seed In NCAA Committee rankings

Wake Forest was the top-ranked team in the nation. The rest of the top five included Indiana, North Carolina, Clemson and Michigan State.
