Meeting Notes: It will be Georgetown’s sixth appearance in the men’s soccer championship, the second showing for Xavier. The Hoyas host their second-ever championship final, winning it all in 2015. Xavier was runner up to Providence in the 2014 tournament and is looking for their first title. Georgetown and Xavier have never met in a championship title match, but the teams have faced off twice before in the league’s postseason tourney. Georgetown knocked Xavier out of the tournament in the 2015 semifinals (1-0, OT) en route to the Hoyas’ first-ever title. Xavier defeated Georgetown the year prior, also in the semifinals with a 1-0 score (in regulation). Xavier has a one-game edge in the all-time series against Georgetown, 4-3-0, after winning this year’s match in Cincinnati, also by 1-0 in overtime. The Hoyas were ranked ninth nationally when they lost to Xavier behind a Samson Sergi goal assisted by Simen Hestnes in the 92nd. Of note, Georgetown’s Achara didn’t play in this game. Achara is second behind BIG EAST Freshman of the Year Derek Dodson in points at Georgetown. Dodson has 20 (9G, 2A), Achara has 15 (7G, 1A) but only played in nine matches. Achara has been playing through injury all season, missing six matches in the month of October. Xavier has three players with 19 points and above led by Hestnes with 21 points (7G, 7A), Matt Vasquenza with 20 points (8G, 4A) and Sergi with 19 (9G, 1A). The Musketeers lead the league in goals per game (1.89) and points per game (5.79). Georgetown is tied for second in goals (1.78).
