DePaul Loses Opener At Wintrust Arena; Four Games On Sunday Slate
DePaul played its first game in the new Wintrust Arena in downtown Chicago on Saturday. A crowd of 10,194 attended and watched No. 14 Notre Dame pull away in the second half and record a 72-58 victory against the Blue Demons.
Tre’Darius McCallum and Eli Cain led the Blue Demons in scoring with 14 points each. DePaul committed only four turnovers, but was just 5-of-22 from 3-point range. DePaul was outshot from the floor 47.2 percent to 33.8 percent.
The Sunday schedule begins with Georgetown, the only BIG EAST team yet to play, hosting Jacksonville at noon in Patrick Ewing’s head coaching debut. The game tips at noon ET on FSN.
The first of two games on FS1 today has Seton Hall meeting Monmouth at Prudential Center at 1:30 p.m. The Pirates are coming off a 90-68 win over Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday. Monmouth beat Bucknell 79-78 in its opener.
The second FS1 contest has Creighton hosting Alcorn State at 7 p.m. The Bluejays also won their opener on Friday, beating Yale 92-76. The dynamic duo of Marcus Foster and Khyri Thomas combined for 45 points and shot a combined 19-of-25 from the field against Yale. Alcorn State, 18-14 last year, lost 99-59 to LSU on Friday.
Butler will be aiming for a 2-0 start under new head coach LaVall Jordan when the Bulldogs play Princeton in Hinkle Fieldhouse at 6 p.m. on CBS Sports Network. Butler beat Kennesaw State 82-64 on Friday. Princeton, which was picked third in the Ivy League, will be playing its season opener.
