BIG EAST Promotes It’s On Us Week Of Action With Freeze Flash Mob
NEW YORK – A charter partner with the White House’s “It’s On Us” campaign, the BIG EAST Conference continues the education campaign to end sexual assault on college campuses. In late-October the league’s member institutions took part in the Fall Week of action, this year, uniquely incorporating a social media campaign centered around a Freeze Flash Mob to drive awareness.
All 10 of our member institutions participated in the Freeze Flash mob, which was coordinated by the BIG EAST Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. It’s On Us BIG EAST t-shirts were provided by the conference to BIG EAST SAAC members to distribute. On Monday, Nov. 13, the BIG EAST Conference noted a “winner” of best production, which was DePaul, which was held at the Rey Meyer Fitness and Recreation Center during the evening hours to generate the most awareness.
The BIG EAST created a Twitter Moment to capture the event.

Also during the week of action, the BIG EAST Digital Network broadcasts featured specific messaging regarding driving awareness on campus sexual assault. The BIG EAST SAAC It’s On Us public service announcement ran during all BEDN live broadcasts during the 2017 Fall Week of Action (Oct. 22 – 28).
At home contests during the week, the BIG EAST school SAAC members set up “sign in” tables, to encourage game attendees to sign the It’s On Us pledge.
Launched by President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden in September 2014, the “It’s On Us” campaign aims to fundamentally shift the way the world thinks about sexual assault and encourages students to create safe environments across college campuses – from dorms and locker rooms to fraternities and sororities. To participate, students, coaches, administrators, community members and beyond are asked to take a pledge to be part of the solution at www.ItsOnUs.org.
The “It’s On Us” weeks of action began in spring 2015. This fall was the seventh total. The week of action was created to have a concentrated awareness campaign to draw attention through specific student-athlete engagements and campus-wise initiatives.
