Shamorie Ponds Had 21 Points and Nine Rebounds In Tuesday's Win

In Tuesday’s action, No. 5 Villanova and St. John’s each moved to 2-0 and enjoyed large margins of victory while Marquette lost at home to No. 19 Purdue in a Gavitt Tipoff Games matchup.
Villanova set a school record with 12 blocked shots in a 113-77 win against Nicholls at Wells Fargo Center. Mikal Bridges scored a career-high 23 points and added four blocks. Donte DiVincenzo helped with 20 points. VU’s team point total was the most since scoring 113 against Hartford in 2007.
St. John’s recorded an 80-55 victory against Central Connecticut State at Carnesecca Arena. Shamorie Ponds filled his stat line with 21 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals. Newcomer Justin Simon posted his first career double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Marquette got a combined 49 points from guards Andrew Rowsey and Markus Howard, but Purdue’s inside game was too much for the Golden Eagles in an 86-71 win for the Boilermakers. Rowsey had 25 points and six assists. Howard finished with 24 points before fouling out.
Wednesday’s schedule shows three battles in the Gavitt Tipoff Games and Georgetown playing a home contest.
At 6:30 p.m. ET on FS1, Seton Hall hosts Indiana at the Prudential Center. The action continues on FS1 at 8:30 p.m. with Butler traveling to Maryland. At 9 p.m., Creighton plays No. 20 Northwestern at Allstate Arena on BTN.
Georgetown goes for its second win of the season when it hosts Mount St. Mary’s at 7 p.m. on FS2.
