BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Derek Dodson, Georgetown, Fr., F (Aurora, Ill.)
Georgetown freshman forward Derek Dodson scored two goals in the Hoyas’ 3-1 come-from behind victory over Creighton on Wednesday, the final day of the 2017 regular season. Dodson scored the game-winning goal in the 77th minute. He followed it up with an insurance goal in the 83rd to help lock up the No. 2 seed for Georgetown and a first-round bye in the upcoming BIG EAST Championship, presented by Jeep. Dodson has eight goals this season, six in league play.
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Nick Najera, Seton Hall, Sr., D (Laguna Hills, Calif.)
Seton Hall senior defender Nick Najera played the full 90 minutes at center back in his career finale against Villanova on Wednesday night. Najera helmed limit the Wildcats to just five shots on goal to help the Pirates end their season with a 2-0 shutout victory. Najera also assisted the goal that was the eventual game-winner.
BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week
Colin Miller, Providence, RS-Jr., GK (Bel Air, Md.)
Friar Colin Miller repeats as goalkeeper of the week after a five-save shutout performance in double-overtime against St. John’s helped Providence earn a much-needed point to clinch a BIG EAST tournament berth. In the fifth minute Miller made a diving save on a shot by Harry Cooksley to keep the Red Storm off the board. In the 25th minute, Miller made another huge diving stop on Cooksley.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Jack Beer, Georgetown, Fr., F/M (Thornwood, N.Y.)
Freshman Jack Beer scored his first collegiate goal in Georgetown's 3-1 win over Creighton to solidify the No. 2 seed in the BIG EAST Championship. His goal came in the 30th minute, tying the game at 1-1 after the Bluejays had taken a one-goal lead. Beer’s goal started a Hoya rally that helped the Blue & Gray earn a first round bye in the tournament.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Eric Dick, Butler, RS-Sr., GK (Carmel, Ind.)
Dick earned another victory, his eighth BIG EAST win of the season, with a five-save performance and one goal allowed in a 2-1 victory over Xavier on Wednesday night.
Isaac Galliford, Butler, So., M, (Houston, Texas)
Galliford ended the 2017 regular season on a high note with a three-point game with a goal and an assist in Butler’s 2-1 victory over Xavier. Galliford leveled the match at 1-1 in the 29th minute, his third goal of the season. He assisted the game-winner, serving the corner kick in the 78th to Eric Leonard.
Zach El-Shafei, DePaul, So., M (Ottawa, Canada)
El-Shafei had a three-point day for DePaul to end the 2017 regular season with a 3-1 win over Marquette at Wish Field. El-Shafei assisted the eventual game-winner and also recorded the insurance goal in the 87th minute.
Andrew Withers, St. John’s, RS-Jr., GK (Wellington, New Zealand)
Withers had a six-save performance in his eighth shutout of the year as he helped keep the Friars scoreless in a 0-0 draw for the Red Storm.
Chris Martinez, Seton Hall, Seton Hall, Sr., (Englewood, N.J.)
Martinez posted a shutout for the Pirates in a five-save performance in a 2-0 victory over Villanova. It was Martinez’ only career appearance for Seton Hall.
