Connecticut’s Charlotte Veitner Honored as NFHCA Division I Mideast Regional Player of the Year
GILBERT, Ariz. – Connecticut senior forward Charlotte Veitner has been selected the Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division I Mideast Regional Player of the Year, as announced on Tuesday. The honor marks the fifth-straight season that a Connecticut student-athlete has won the award.
Veitner capped her career by leading Connecticut to the national championship with an undefeated season while also topping the NCAA leaderboard in both points (3.64) and goals (1.55) per game. Her 34 goals were nine more than any other player in the nation, and her 80 points were 16 ahead of the next closest competitor. She repeats as the Mideast Region Player of the Year after also winning a second straight Big East Offensive Player of the Year honor. Veitner was named the NCAA Division I Tournament Most Valuable Player after scoring both of Connecticut’s goals in a 2-1 win over Maryland in the championship on Nov. 19, including the game-winner in the 62nd minute. In 92 career games, the forward accrued an impressive 299 points, 118 goals and 63 assists, topping the UConn record book in all three offensive categories. During her time at Connecticut, the Huskies won four BIG EAST Regular Season and Tournament Championships and she was a part of two National Championships, 2014 and 2017, respectively.
Overall, the Longstreth/NFHCA acknowledged five student-athletes. Joining Veitner in the national recognition was Delaware junior forward Greta Nauck (Mid-Atlantic), Boston University junior back Ally Hammel (Northeast), Virginia senior midfielder Tara Vittese (South) and Louisville senior forward Nicole Woods (West).
