In The Polls

For the first time in 13 years Villanova is ranked in both national polls. The Wildcats, who are 5-0 for the first time since 2013-14, debuted at No. 25 in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 and No. 24 in Tuesday’s USA Today Coaches’ Poll. Villanova is in the AP Poll for the first time since Nov. 29, 2004, and the first time in the Coaches’ Poll since Jan. 21, 2013, while the Wildcats were most recently in both top 25s on Nov. 22, 2004. No. 23/23 Marquette remained in the top 25 for a fourth consecutive week, while DePaul received votes in both national polls. The Blue Demons have won five of their last six while the Golden Eagles have won two of three, with their lone setback in that span being a two-point overtime setback in Cancun to No. 12/13 Tennessee.

No. 23/23 Marquette led by as many as 67 points as it downed Loyola Chicago, 92-30, in its MPS Day matinee at the Al McGuire Center on Tuesday. The 62-point win on Tuesday marked a program record for largest margin of victory as the Golden Eagles surpassed the previous record of 56 points in a victory over Ball State, 97-41, back on Dec. 21, 1993. The Golden Eagles (3-2) were led by four players in double-digit scoring, while every available player saw action and 12 MU players reached the scoring column.
