Corboz, Monaghan, Wenger Named Women’s Soccer All-Americans

First Team All-American Rachel Corboz of Georgetown leads a trio of BIG EAST players recognized by United Soccer Coaches.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Three BIG EAST women’s soccer players were tabbed All-Americans by United Soccer Coaches, including First Team selection Rachel Corboz. The Georgetown senior midfielder was joined by second-team selections Elizabeth Wenger, a senior defender for the Hoyas, and Butler junior midfielder Paige Monaghan. All three garnered BIG EAST major awards and led their respective teams to the NCAA Tournament berths.
 
This season Corboz was named the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year and a unanimous First Team All-BIG EAST honoree. She led the team with nine goals and 12 assists for 30 points on the season, and had seven multi-point performances. Corboz was the nation's active career leader in assists and assists per game as a senior, and ranked second in the country in assists and fourth in assists per game. She led the country in total assists (16) in 2016, and now ranks second on GU's all-time career listing in assists (44) and points (112).
 
In her career, Corboz earned two career BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year awards and was a four-time All-BIG EAST honoree including three nods to the first team. She was a three-time United Soccer Coaches All-American and now a four-time United Soccer Coaches All-Region honoree and a two-time MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist. Corboz earned a spot on the BIG EAST All-Tournament Team in 2016 and 2017, winning Most Outstanding Offensive Player as a senior. This is her third career All-America honor and her second nod to the first team.
 
Wenger earned a spot on the second team marking her first career All-America honor. She was a First Team All-Midwest Region honoree after being named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year. She was a three-time All-BIG EAST honoree, earning a spot on the first team as a senior. Wenger earned five BIG EAST weekly awards this season and also her second-consecutive all-tournament award being named the Most Outstanding Defensive Player as a senior. She anchored a defense that allowed just seven goals in 21 games. Wenger started in 19 games on the season, and in her career she had two assists and 78 starts.
 
Monaghan, the 2017 BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year, was recently named First Team All-Midwest Region for her fantastic junior campaign. Monaghan helped the Bulldogs reach the NCAA Tournament for just the second time in program history (2015, 2017). She ended the 2017 season with 26 points off 10 goals and six assists. The New Jersey native is currently in Florida with the US U-23 Women's National Team for training camp. She was one of 22 college players to join head coach B.J. Snow in Orlando. 
 
Monaghan joins elite company alongside Serina Kashimoto (2015) and Chris Johnson (1994) as the only Bulldogs to earn the honor. Both Kashimoto and Johnson were named to the second team.
