The BIG EAST went into Wednesday winning 80 percent of its non-league games.  That percentage stayed the same after league teams won four of five contests.

Georgetown moved to 9-1 after defeating North Texas 75-63 at Capital One Arena.  Marcus Derrickson scored a team-high 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds.  Jessie Govan posted his seventh double-double of the season with 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.  He also blocked five shots.

No. 23 Seton Hall, No. 25 Creighton and St. John’s are all 10-2 after wins last night.

Seton Hall used Khadeen Carrington’s season-high 26 points and a 58th career double-double by Angel Delgado to knock off Wagner 89-68.  Delgado finished with 15 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.  All five Pirate starters reached double figures.

Creighton was not challenged in a 116-62 victory over USC-Upstate.  Marcus Foster played only 15 minutes, but still led both teams in scoring with 16 points.  Six Bluejays finished in double figures.  The 116 points was the third highest total in school history.

Shamorie Ponds and Justin Simon were the catalysts behind St. John’s 77-73 win over Saint Joseph’s in the first game of the Hall of Fame Holiday Showcase at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut.  Ponds finished with 28 points for the third time this season and added seven rebounds.  Simon just missed a triple-double with 11 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists.

A banged-up Providence team lost to Houston 70-59 in the second game of the Hall of Fame Holiday Classic.  Rodney Bullock had a strong game with 24 points and eight rebounds, but Kyron Cartwright played only six minutes after injuring an ankle Sunday in the win over Stony Brook.  Alpha Diallo, who missed the previous two games with a leg injury, played only 13 minutes.  Neither player scored.

The Thursday schedule shows three games.  Marquette hosts American at 7 p.m. ET on FS1.  Guard Markus Howard leads the BIG EAST in scoring with a 22.8 average and is 36-of-36 from the foul line this season.  Also at 7 p.m., Butler hosts Western Illinois on FSN.  The Bulldogs are 7-0 at Hinkle Fieldhouse this year.  At 9 p.m., DePaul meets Miami, Ohio, at Wintrust Arena on FS1.  Max Strus leads the Blue Demons in scoring at 16.9 ppg and has scored at least 20 points in four of the last five games.

BIG EAST teams have won 52 of the last 62 games overall.  For the season, the BIG EAST non-conference record is 92-23 (.800).
