On the second night of BIG EAST play, No. 23 Seton Hall came back to beat No. 25 Creighton and Kyron Cartwright put together an extremely impressive stat line while helping Providence beat St. John’s in Carnesecca Arena.

In the five season-opening games, the winning team has scored at least 90 points.  Seton Hall was the only home team to win.

The Pirates held the Bluejays scoreless in the final 3:32 in their 90-84 victory.  Desi Rodriguez led the comeback with 23 points.  Khadeen Carrington and Angel Delgado each added 18 points.  Both Delgado and Michael Nzei pulled down 14 rebounds.  Delgado leads the nation’s active players with 60 double-doubles.  Creighton’s Martin Krampelj finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds for his third double-double of the year.  Marcus Foster had 14 points.

Providence’s Kyron Cartwright registered 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the floor, dished 15 assists and made four steals to lead the Friars past St. John’s 94-72.  Cartwright shot 5-of-7 from 3-point range.  Providence made 16 3-pointers (30 attempts), their second highest made total ever in a BIG EAST game.  Alpha Diallo contributed 16 points and 12 rebounds.  Marvin Clark II led the Red Storm with 20 points and eight boards.  Shamorie Ponds had 16 assists and six assists before leaving the game with a leg injury.

Saturday’s schedule includes the six teams that played on Wednesday.  DePaul and Xavier start the day at the Cintas Center on FS1 at 2 p.m. ET.  Xavier is coming off a 91-87 win at Marquette and holds a 7-1 edge over the Blue Demons in the series as BIG EAST members.

No. 1 Villanova plays at Butler on CBS at 4 p.m.  The two teams have played four close ones at Hinkle Fieldhouse in BIG EAST play.  The Bulldogs took down Villanova last year – also ranked No. 1 at the time – 66-58 on Jan. 4.  Villanova won the three previous Hinkle meetings by a total of 11 points with one going into overtime.  Butler also beat Villanova at The Pavilion 74-66 last Feb. 22, again when the Wildcats were No. 1.

At 4:30 p.m., Marquette hosts Georgetown on FS1.  Both the Golden Eagles and Hoyas want to bounce back from close losses in their openers.  Marquette has the league’s top two scorers, Andrew Rowsey (21.5) and Markus Howard (21.1).  The Hoyas have the top rebounder, Jessie Govan (12.2).  The two teams have split the last 12 meetings with two going into overtime.
