MBB Minute -- 76 Points Works For Creighton, Georgetown
Creighton and Georgetown each notched road wins on Tuesday by scoring 76 points.
For the Bluejays, it was a 76-67 victory at Butler which moved Creighton past the Bulldogs and into second place in the standings with a 7-3 record. The win also gave the Bluejays a 20-6 overall record, the 17th 20-win season in the last 19 years. Butler fell to 7-4 in BIG EAST play and 18-5 overall.
Creighton outshot Butler from the floor 55.8 percent to 40.9 percent, and the Bluejays were 13-of-21 from 3-point range, while the Bulldogs were 7-of-27.
Georgetown’s 76 points were just enough to win at DePaul 76-73. The Hoyas’ L.J. Peak scored the game’s final five points, including a driving basket with 13 seconds left. GU’s Rodney Pryor led all scorers with 26 points. DePaul’s Billy Garrett Jr. had 25 points. Garrett Jr. became the school’s all-time leader with 532 free throws made and moved into 11th place on the school’s all-time scoring list with 1,496 points.
Wednesday’s three-game schedule includes an FS1 doubleheader that begins with Villanova at Providence at 7 p.m. ET. The Wildcats beat the Friars 78-68 on Jan. 21 at Wells Fargo Center behind Josh Hart’s 25 points. Villanova is 7-2 in league play, a half-game ahead of Creighton. Providence is coming off a 79-78 win at Marquette.
In the second game on FS1, Seton Hall travels to Xavier. The Pirates will be aiming for their first road BIG EAST win this season against a Xavier team that will play its first game without injured Edmond Sumner. Xavier is 5-3 in league play, while Seton Hall is 3-5.
In a 7 p.m. tipoff on FS2, Marquette and St. John’s meet in Madison Square Garden. The Golden Eagles, 5-4 in the BIG EAST, play three of their next four on the road. The top three scorers in the game are freshman guards. Shamorie Ponds (17.2-3rd) and Marcus LoVett (17.1-4th) for St. John’s and Markus Howard (15.4-11th) for Marquette. St. John's is 4-6 in the BIG EAST.
