Four Repeat Winners For #BIGEASTtrack Weekly Awards
BIG EAST Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Erik Peterson, Butler, Sr., Distance (Barrington, Ill.)
Senior Erik Peterson repeats as BIG EAST Men’s Track Athlete of the Week honors for the second-straight week after once again posting a school record and top-four world mark. Peterson placed third in the 5,000-meter run at the Husky Classic hosted by the University of Washington as he finished with a Bulldog record of 13:40.90. Peterson’s time finished the day as the No. 4 mark in the world. It is currently the fourth fastest time in the NCAA and leads the BIG EAST. Peterson holds the top times in the BIG EAST in the 3K and the 5K. Last week, he set the Butler record in the 3K at 7:51.22, which was the fifth best in the NCAA and sixth-fastest in the world in 2017.
BIG EAST Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Trevor Kintyhtt, DePaul, Sr., Throws (Akron, Ohio)
DePaul senior Trevor Kintyhtt is the BIG EAST Men’s Field Athlete of the Week for a fourth time this season. Kintyhtt won the shot put at the Chicagoland Championships and eclipsed the 20-meter mark for the fifth time this year. He continued to be the only BIG EAST student-athlete to surpass 18 meters this indoor season. His throw of 20.05 meters would have ranked 46th nationally.
BIG EAST Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Siofra Cleirigh Buttner, Villanova, Jr., Distance (Dublin, Ireland)
Siofra Cleirigh Buttner repeats as the BIG EAST Women’s Track Athlete of the Week for the second time this season and it is the third consecutive week that a Villanova runner has been honored. Cleirigh Buttner posted a time of 4:33.16 in the mile at the FastTrack National Invite. She ran an open mile for the first time in her career and recorded a time that ranks fourth in the nation this season. The time also puts Cleirigh Buttner second on the Wildcats all-time performance list and is the fifth-fastest time overall in school history. The junior ranks fourth in the nation in the mile and fifth in the 800-meter run this season. Her time also leads the BIG EAST.
BIG EAST Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Monique Felix, Marquette, So., Jumps (Sheboygan, Wis.)
Sophomore Monique Felix moved up to No. 2 in the BIG EAST in the triple jump, taking third place at the GVSU BIG Meet on Friday with a personal-best mark of 12.11 meters. The jump ranks third all-time at Marquette. It is Felix’s second weekly honor this indoor season.
Notable Performances
- DePaul’s Sebastian Feyersinger claimed two individual events and a relay on Saturday at the Chicagoland Championships. All three times topped the BIG EAST lists this season. He won the 200-meter (21.93), 400-meter (47.98) and anchored the 4x400-meter relay (3:14.36). All times were converted.
- Joseph White of Georgetown won the 800-meter run at the Iowa State Classic. His time of 1:46.44 is the fourth-fastest time in the country currently and tops the BIG EAST chart. It is the only time to best 1:50 in the league. It was a Georgetown school record, clocking nine-tenths of a second faster than the previous best.
- St. John’s Maya Stephens anchored the Red Storm’s 4x400-meter and 4x200-meter relay teams to podium finishes at the 110th New York Road Runners Millrose Games. Stephens helped St. Johns’ win the Collegiate Metropolitan Championship 4x400-meter event in a BIG EAST leading time of 3:44.80, while she ran the fastest leg of 54.16 seconds. The 4x200-meter relay team placed third in the women’s open in time of 1:40.40.
