DePaul Sweeps BIG EAST Tennis Awards
NEW YORK – After an all-around victorious weekend for DePaul, the Blue Demons sweep the BIG EAST Tennis Athletes of the Week honors as Nathan de Veer picks up his second men’s award of the season and Yuliya Shupenia secures the women’s title.
BIG EAST Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week
Nathan de Veer, DePaul, Sr.
Going undefeated against Lewis University, the senior led the way for DePaul to earn its sixth match in a row. De Veer defeated Alan Braschinsky 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 and paired with Alex Galoustian to defeat Mate Srdanovic and Braschinsky 6-3 at No. 1 doubles. Overall, the senior is undefeated in singles action for the dual season and is 5-0 in doubles with Galoustian.
BIG EAST Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week
Yuliya Shupenia, DePaul, Sr.
Shupenia helped the Blue Demons to a 4-3 victory over Purdue on Sunday, snapping DePaul’s four-match losing streak. No. 95 ranked Shupenia defeated Nicole Robinson at the top spot 6-0, 6-2 and paired with Ana Vladutu at No. 1 doubles for a 6-4 win against Rafaella Baquerizo and Robinson.

Dylan Flanagan, Villanova, Fr.
The rookie helped clinch Villanova’s 5-2 win over Wagner State as he rallied back for a three-set win at the No. 4 slot.
Stefan Suarez, Villanova, Fr.
Suarez had an impressive outing over the 5-2 win against Wagner College with a straight-set win at the No. 2 spot, securing Villanova’s first singles point.
Tyler Roth, Villanova, Fr.
Playing in the No. 3 spot for the Wildcats, Roth picked up straight-set singles over Wagner, 6-0, 6-4
Matt Bishop, Xavier, Sr.
Bishop finished 2-0 in singles play and 2-0 in doubles play this weekend against Samford and Eastern Kentucky. In singles action, he defeated Samford (4-6, 6-4, 6-2) and Eastern Kentucky (6-4, 6-3) at the No.2 spot.
