NEW YORK – Seton Hall freshman Darby Pandolfo has been tabbed BIG EAST Player of the Week and Villanova’s Brette Lawerence has been named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week.  Pandolfo’s first weekend of collegiate action included a .667 batting average and Lawrence finished the weekend with a 1.75 ERA in three complete innings.

Darby Pandolfo, Seton Hall, Fr., C/INF
In her first weekend of collegiate action, the rookie registered a .667 (8-12) batting average, adding four doubles, a triple, a home run and seven RBI. In her second game, Pandolfo over-shot a cycle, going 4-for-5 with two doubles, a triple and a home run against Bucknell. Her strong opening weekend helped the Pirates go 3-0 at the Runnin’ Bulldog Tournament, winning each game via the run-rule.   

BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week
Brette Lawrence, Villanova, Sr.
Pitching three complete games, Lawrence helped Villanova to two wins at then Madeira Beach Invitational over the weekend. The senior opened the season with a shutout on Friday against Eastern Michigan, securing the Wildcats’ first win of the season. Lawrence allowed just two hits and struck out eight batters in the 1-0 victory. In Saturday’s loss to Quinnipiac, Lawrence went six innings, and gave up two runs, while striking out five batters. On Sunday against UAB, Lawrence struck out six batters and allowed three runs in the 8-3 victory over the Blazers. Overall, the pitcher finished the weekend with a 1.75 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 20.0 innings.

Jenna Foreman, Butler, So., OF
Earning All-Tournament Team honors at the Mardi Gras Invitational hosted by South Alabama, the sophomore had seven hits in 14 at-bats, including a double. She scored four runs and knocked in another.
Megan Leyva, DePaul, Jr., P/OF
Leyva helped the Blue Demons claim wins over Northern Colorado (6-4) and Bradley (11-2/6 in.) as the veteran recorded a .462 batting average, adding seven RBI, six hits, five runs and two home runs.
Nikki Alden, Villanova, Jr., IF
Alden ended the weekend on a four-game hitting streak and she reached base in all five Villanova games at the Madeira Beach Invitational. In the last game of the weekend, Alden hit two home runs to lead the Wildcats to a victory over UAB.
Gretchen Bowie, St. John’s, Fr., UTLI
The freshman was excellent at the plate all weekend to help the Johnnies pickup three wins at the ‘Strike-Out Cancer Tournament’ hosted by FAU in Boca Raton, Fla. Against Savannah State, Bowie went 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, a double, triple, stolen base and her first-career home run, a grand slam to finish the weekend batting .400 with five RBI and a .800 slugging pct.
Madison Morris, St. John’s, So., P
The sophomore shutdown defending AAC Champ, Tulsa tossing a complete-game, three-hitter with three strikeouts to give the Johnnies its first win of the year over an 2016 NCAA Tournament team.
