#BIGEASTmlax Weekly Awards Go To Georgetown’s Bucaro, Providence’s Neumann And Denver’s Logan
NEW YORK – Georgetown’s Daniel Bucaro earned BIG EAST men’s lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week honors after a six-goal game against ranked Towson. Providence’s Jarrod Neumann earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, while Denver’s Danny Logan was named Freshman of the Week.
Denver remains No. 1 in both polls, tied with Maryland in the media poll. Marquette is receiving votes in both polls, Providence is getting votes in the media poll.
BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Daniel Bucaro, Georgetown, So, A (East Setauket, N.Y.)
In a close one-goal loss to then-No. 13/12 Towson, Georgetown sophomore Daniel Bucaro did all he could for the Hoyas as he scored a career high six goals, including a career best two man-up goals. Bucaro took 14 shots, eight on goal and picked up one ground ball. Bucaro scored the first, second, third, fifth, sixth and eighth goals for the Hoyas. He opened scoring in the third period for Georgetown, sparking a 4-1 goal run that fell just short. Bucaro’s six goals are a conference best his season.
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Jarrod Neumann, Providence, Sr., D (Springfield, Mass.)
Senior defender Jarrod Neumann helped Providence to its third straight victory, the third game in a row where the Friars held their opponent to less than six goals. Neumann caused one turnover and picked up one ground ball in the 8-6 victory over Vermont last week. He was also responsible for marking Vermont’s Dawes Milching and holding him scoreless after a three-goal, three-assist week for the attacker the week prior against Holy Cross.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Danny Logan, Denver, Fr., M (Upper Arlington, Ohio)
Pioneer rookie midfielder Danny Logan scored four goals on seven shots for Denver. No. 1 Denver went 1-0 with a 19-6 win over Cleveland State and a 12-0 victory over Canisius at the Face Off Classic, which the Pioneers hosted.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Connor Cannizzaro, Denver, Sr., A (Cazenovia, N.Y.)
Extended his active point streak to 45 games in a nine-point week that consisted of three goals and six assists in DU’s two games over the weekend. He currently has 180 points in his two-plus year career at Denver.
Trevor Baptiste, Denver, Jr., FO (Denville, N.J.)
Added a goal to compliment a two-game stat line that consisted of 20 ground balls and 28-for-35 from the face-off X in six quarters of action. He won 11-of-14 faceoffs to limit Canisius’ possession in Denver’s 12-0 shutout on Sunday afternoon, the first shutout for DU.
Nick Hatzipetrakos, Providence, So., M (Syosett, N.Y.)
Registered a hat trick in the Friars’ 8-6 win over Vermont on Saturday.
Ryan Nawrocki, Providence, Fr., M (Smithtown, N.Y.)
Scored a goal with 1:21 remaining in the Friar’s game against Vermont to extend PC’s lead to 8-5 over the Catamounts. Providence won 8-6.
Jack Curran, Villanova, Grad., M (Fair Haven, N.J.)
Scored four goals, tying a career high, and added an assist in a 17-12 loss to then-No. 9/10 Penn State.
