Seton Hall's Angel Delgado Had 26 Points And 17 Rebounds In Georgetown Win
MBB Minute -- Road Teams Take Afternoon Games, 'Home' Villanova Wins At Night
Seton Hall, Xavier and Marquette made it 3-0 for road teams on Saturday afternoon, then home-standing Villanova won at night.
Seton Hall edged Georgetown 68-66 in overtime at Verizon Center on the strength of Angel Delgado’s 26 points and 17 rebounds and Desi Rodriguez’s winning basket with just over a minute to play in the extra period. The double-double was Delgado’s 40
th of his career. L.J. Peak led Georgetown with 18 points and Akoy Agau added seven points, 11 rebounds and five blocked shots.
Xavier and Creighton also played a two-point game with the visiting Musketeers rallying for an 82-80 win. Trevon Bluiett hit back-to-back 3-pointers late in the game which gave Xavier a 75-70 advantage. He finished with 16 points, as did freshman Tyrique Jones. Quentin Goodin had 15 points, five assists and five blocks. Marcus Foster scored a team-high 17 points for the Bluejays. Khyri Thomas had 15 points and six rebounds. Creighton struggled from the foul line, making only 11-of-21.
Marquette had its formidable outside shooting game going strong at DePaul and won 92-79. The Golden Eagles were 14-of-22 from beyond the arc and shot 57.7 percent from the floor. MU’s Andrew Rowsey had a game-high 22 points and was 5-of-6 from 3-point range. Haanif Cheatham finished with 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists. All five DePaul starters reached double figures led by Tre’Darius McCallum’s 21 points.
In the evening at Wells Fargo Center, Villanova also won by a 92-79 score, beating St. John’s. Josh Hart led the winners with 26 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Donte DiVincenzo came off the bench to score a collegiate-high 20 points. Marcus LoVett led St. John’s with 23 points. The Wildcats started the game with a 24-5 run and led 46-28 at halftime.
BIG EAST action continues Tuesday when Villanova hosts Georgetown at The Pavilion and Butler travels to Marquette.
