Xavier’s Bluiett, St. John’s LoVett Tabbed For MBB Weekly Honors
NEW YORK – For the second straight week, Xavier guard Trevon Bluiett has earned BIG EAST Player of the Week honors and St. John’s guard Marcus LoVett has been selected BIG EAST Freshman of the Week. Both players averaged 20.0 points per game in their two contests.
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Trevon Bluiett, Xavier, G, Jr.
Bluiett averaged 20.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and scored the decisive baskets in a pair of victories for the Musketeers. He started his week by scoring 24 points and connecting on the winning basket with 4.4 seconds left in a 72-70 victory over Seton Hall. On Saturday, Bluiett’s back-to-back 3-pointers late in the game put Xavier ahead to stay in an 82-80 win at No. 22/22 Creighton. He finished with 16 points.
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Marcus LoVett, St. John’s, G, Fr.
LoVett averaged 20.0 points, 5.5 assists and 3.5 steals in a 1-1 week for the Red Storm. He shots 57.7 percent from the field for the two games. LoVett had 17 points, five assists and three steals in an 86-72 win against Marquette and 23 points in a 92-79 loss at Villanova. For the season, LoVett ranks fifth in the BIG EAST in scoring with a 17.2 average.
BIG EAST Honor Roll
Rodney Pryor, Georgetown, G, Gr.
Averaged 17.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and shot 68.4 percent from the field in a 1-1 week. Scored 26 points in a win at DePaul.
Andrew Rowsey, Marquette, G, Jr.
Averaged 21.5 points in a 1-1 week. Had 22 points in a road win at DePaul. Shot 9-of-15 from 3-point range for the two games.
Bashir Ahmed, St. John’s, F, Jr.
In a 1-1 week, averaged 19.0 points and 6.5 rebounds. Had 23 points and six rebounds in a win over Marquette.
Angel Delgado, Seton Hall, F, Jr.
Averaged 19.5 points and 15.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week. Posted 26 points and 17 rebounds in an overtime win at Georgetown.
Josh Hart, Villanova, G, Sr.
Averaged 21.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists in a 2-0 week. He registered 26 points, nine rebounds and five assists in a 92-79 victory over St. John’s.
