In Wednesday’s BIG EAST action, Seton Hall and Xavier picked up wins at home.  The Pirates gained their second straight two-point victory in overtime, while the Musketeers increased their winning streak to four games.

Freshman Myles Powell’s driving basket with nine seconds left in the extra period gave Seton Hall a 72-70 win against Providence.  The Hall’s Khadeen Carrington scored a game-high 21 points and Angel Delgado produced his 10th double-double in 11 BIG EAST games this season with 19 points and 15 rebounds.  Powell finished with 14 points.  Rodney Bullock led the Friars with 19 points.  Seton Hall went into the game last in the league in free throw shooting, but made 12-of-14.  The Pirates are 5-6 in BIG EAST play and the Friars are 4-8.

Xavier has a four-game winning streak after knocking off DePaul 72-61 at Cintas Center.  For the seventh straight contest, Trevon Bluiett was the team’s high scorer.  The junior tallied 20 points to give him an 18.7 scoring average, second in the BIG EAST.  RaShid Gaston added 14 points and J.P. Macura contributed 13 points, seven rebounds and six assists.  For the first time this season, freshman Brandon Cyrus led DePaul in scoring with 18 points.  He also had six rebounds.  Eli Cain added 15 points.  Xavier is 8-3 in league play, while DePaul is 1-10.

BIG EAST play continues on Saturday with all 10 teams in action.  The FOX broadcast network has a doubleheader with Marquette at Georgetown at noon ET followed by Villanova at Xavier at 2:30 p.m.  The CBS Sports Network will carry Seton Hall at St. John’s from Madison Square Garden at noon and Butler at Providence at 4 p.m.  Creighton visits DePaul at 2 p.m. on FS1.
