Creighton, Providence and Seton Hall posted Tuesday victories to improve their chances for the highest possible seed in next week’s BIG EAST Tournament.

Creighton moved closer to nailing down the No. 3 seed with an 82-68 victory over visiting St. John’s.  Marcus Foster, the BIG EAST’s leading scorer with an 18.8 average, scored 18 points.  Khyri Thomas added 14 points and 12 rebounds.   Shamorie Ponds was the only Red Storm player to reach double figures, scoring 16 points.  The Bluejays are 10-7 in league play and the Johnnies are 7-10.  St. John's will be the No. 8 seed.

Providence has a five-game winning streak after knocking off DePaul 73-64 at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center.  Kyron Cartwright and Emmitt Holt lead four Friar players in double figures with 14 points each.  Brandon Cyrus and Devin Gage has 12 points each for the Blue Demons.  The Friars moved to 9-8 in BIG EAST play and 19-11 overall.  It’s the fifth straight season PC has posted at least 19 wins.  DePaul is 9-21 overall and 2-15 in the league.

For Seton Hall, Angel Delgado’s layup with 1:12 to play gave the Pirates the lead for good in a 62-59 win against Georgetown at Prudential Center.  Desi Rodriguez led the Pirates with 27 points and Delgado recorded his 11th straight and nation-leading 24th double-double.  L.J. Peak scored 15 points for the Hoyas, while making 7-of-11 from the field.  The Hall is 19-10 overall and 9-8 in the BIG EAST.  Georgetown is 14-16 and 5-12.

Wednesday’s lone game on the schedule has Marquette playing at Xavier.  FS1 has the telecast at 9 p.m. ET.  Both teams are 8-8, tied for sixth and want to avoid finishing seventh and having to play in the first round of the BIG EAST Tournament next Wednesday.  Marquette won the first meeting 83-61 on Feb. 18 in Milwaukee.  MU freshman Markus Howard had 34 points.  Xavier wants to put a stop to a five-game losing streak.

BIG EAST Tournament seeds determined: Villanova #1, Butler #2, St. John's #8, Georgetown #9, DePaul #10.
