Women’s Basketball All-BIG EAST Teams Unveiled

DePaul’s Brooke Schulte, Marquette’s Allazia Blockton unanimously selected to the first team.

NEW YORKBIG EAST women’s basketball regular-season honors continued to roll out on Wednesday with the announcement of the All-BIG EAST Teams. All 10 conference programs earned at least one recognition across the All-BIG EAST First Team, Second Team, Honorable Mention and All-Freshman Team, which were chosen by a vote of the league’s head coaches.
 
DePaul senior guard Brooke Schulte and Marquette sophomore guard Allazia Blockton highlighted the honorees as unanimous selections to the All-BIG EAST First Team. Schulte, the 2017 BIG EAST Player of the Year, won the league’s scoring title with a 20.8 points per game average over 18 league games, to go along with 7.1 rebounds, 3.4 assists and .535 shooting. Blockton, the first Golden Eagle to garner first-team recognition since 2013-14, finished second in scoring behind Schulte with a 17.2 conference average. Blockton averaged the same clip over 29 total games in 2016-17, entering the postseason with the conference’s top overall average.
 
Creighton sophomore forward Audrey Faber, DePaul senior forward Jacqui Grant and St. John’s senior forward Jade Walker rounded out the All-BIG EAST First Team. Faber averaged 12.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and .420 shooting to lead the Bluejays to a share of their first BIG EAST regular-season title with DePaul. Faber’s .878 free-throw average is tops in the BIG EAST. Grant was selected BIG EAST Co-Defensive Player of the Year and totaled 11 double-doubles in conference play towards averages of 13.9 points and 10.3 rebounds, to go along with a league-high 1.7 bocks. Walker finished with the No. 3 scoring average at 15.7 points per game, thanks to the fifth-best field goal percentage in the BIG EAST at .507.
 
The five-member All-BIG EAST Second Team included BIG EAST steals-leader Dionna White, a sophomore guard from Georgetown who averages 3.1 thefts per contest to go along with 15.4 points per game; BIG EAST rebounding-leader Tori Schickel, a sophomore forward out of Butler who snags 13.0 caroms per contest, totaled 10 double-doubles in conference play and gathered 20+ rebounds twice in BIG EAST play; and the BIG EAST’s most accurate three-point shooter in Villanova sophomore guard Adrianna Hahn, who sinks .452 attempts from deep for 3.3 per contest towards a 13.5 scoring average. Creighton’s top scorer, senior guard Marissa Janning, also garnered second-team honors after averaging 13.1 points per game and the league’s second-best assists average at 5.0 dimes per contest. Marquette sophomore forward Erika Davenport rounded out the second team after averaging just shy of a double-double with 13.4 points, 9.4 rebounds per game.
 
Six different teams had players named All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention, including Providence with sophomore guard Yoyo Nogic. Nogic led the Friars with 15.1 points per game and a league-high 3.3 three-pointers per contest. Marquette sophomore guard Natisha Hiedeman (13.3 PPG, 3.3 APG), Xavier redshirt-senior guard Raeshan Gaffney (13.6 PPG), Georgetown junior guard Dorothy Adomako (14.4 PPG, 5.8 RPG) and Villanova junior guard Alex Louin (12.4 PPG, 6.6 RPG) were also recognized. BIG EAST Co-Defensive Player of the Year Aaliyah Lewis, a senior guard out of St. John’s, rounded out the list.
 
DePaul guard Kelly Campbell and Seton Hall guard Kaela Hilaire were unanimous selections to the BIG EAST All-Freshman Team, while BIG EAST Freshman of the Year Jaylyn Agnew, four-time BIG EAST Freshman of the Week Alisha Kebbe of St. John’s and Butler guard Sydney Shelton rounded out the honorees.
