NEW YORK – Denver and Providence both clinched playoff berths for the upcoming BIG EAST Championship, for their efforts in assisting with the wins, Pioneer Connor Cannizzaro is BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week and Friar Jarrod Neumann is Defensive Player of the Week. St. John’s Joe Madsen is Freshman of the Week.
 
BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
Connor Cannizzaro, Denver, Sr., A (Cazenovia, N.Y.)
The senior attacker had a six-point day with five goals and one assist to lead Denver to a 18-12 win at St. John’s, clinching a BIG EAST league berth for the fourth-straight year and a 3-0 record so far this season in conference play. Cannizzaro took just seven shots and also caused a turnover. He extended the nation’s longest active point streak to 52 games. He has marked 208 career points at Denver, third in the Pioneers record book. Cannizzaro’s five-goal effort was his fifth hat trick of 2017.
 
BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Jarrod Neumann, Providence, Sr., D (Springfield, Mass.)
Providence senior Jarrod Neumann helped Providence to a fifth-straight win holding opponents to eight goals or less as the Friars defeated Marquette, 9-7. Along with Denver’s win, Providence became the second team to qualify for the BIG EAST Championship, which the Friars are hosting. Neumann marked Marquette’s Andy DeMichiei and held him scoreless throughout the game. DeMichiei has 22 points on the year with 11 goals, 11 assists. Neumann also picked up one ground ball.
 
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Joe Madsen, St. John’s, Fr., A (Locust Valley, N.Y.)
Red Storm freshman Joe Madsen scored five times on a perfect shooting day despite a 18-12 loss to then-No. 4 Denver.  He currently leads the Red Storm with 18 goals and 23 points. He has scored 10 goals in the last three games.
 
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Ethan Walker, Denver, Fr., A (Peterborough, Ontario)
Walker had five points with two goals and three assists in the 18-12 win at St. John’s. He has had five or more points in six games during his rookie season, including in each of his last four.
Daniel Bucaro, Georgetown, So., A (East Setauket, N.Y.)
Recorded his sixth hat trick of the season in a 17-12 loss to No. 20 Villanova, he has scored in 13-straight games for the Hoyas.
Colin Keating, Providence, So., FO (Ridgewood, N.J.)
Keating went 11-for-19 from the faceoff X with seven ground balls in the Friars’ 9-7 win over Marquette.
Jack Curran, Villanova, Grad, M (Fair Haven, N.J.)
Curran netted three goals and dished out an assist during Villanova’s 17-12 victory over Georgetown on Saturday. Curran scored on half the shots on goal he gook and also added a ground ball.
Luke Palmadesso, Villanova, Jr., FO/M (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.)
Palmadesso went 16-for-24 (.667) from the faceoff X on Saturday against Georgetown while adding four ground balls. In the first half, Palmadesso went 10-for-14 (.714) and helped give the Wildcats seven-consecutive offensive possessions. VU scored on all seven of those possessions.
