BIG EAST Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Euan Makepeace, Butler, So., Distance (Loughborough, United Kingdom)
Butler’s Euan Makepeace finished fourth in the first section of the men’s 5,000 meters at the Mt. SAC Relays in California, collecting a lifetime best of 14:03.88. His time leads the league, is ninth in the East and 44th in the NCAA.
BIG EAST Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Brian Mada, DePaul, So., Jumps (Rusape, Zimbabwe)
Brian Mada improved hi BIG EAST-best mark in the triple jump on Saturday at the Beach Invitational after hitting 14.97 meters on his best attempt. It was the second meet in a row he improved his mark and placed 10
th overall, seventh among college competition. He leads the BIG EAST by .26 meters and sits 42nd in the West, 102nd nationally.
BIG EAST Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Gina Genco, Xavier, Jr., Distance (Carmel, Ind.)
Xavier’s Gina Genco set a personal best time of 10:37.97 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Bryan Clay Invitational despite a fall during the race. Her time leads the BIG EAST, while ranking 33rd in the NCAA East Region and placed 12th in the race out of 57 runners. Her time also ranks 78th in the country.
BIG EAST Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Monique Felix, Marquette, So., Multi (Sheboygan, Wis.)
Monique Felix registered a new personal-best in the heptathlon, taking second place out of 45 tough competitors at the Mt. SAC Relays in California last weekend. Her score of 5,287 points was good for third all-time at Marquette. It also tops thee BIG EAST list by a wide margin and ranks 18th in the West Region and 25th nationally. The sophomore PR’d in four of the seven events, including the 200 meters, 800 meters, long jump and javelin. The latter two personal bests cracked the top 10 lists, ranking fifth all time in the javelin (38.75 meters) and sixth all time in the long jump (5.78 meters). Her high jump tops the league (1.69 meters) and is 77th in the West.
BIG EAST Notable Performances
- Butler’s Olivia Pratt posted a time of 4:27.97 in the 1,500 meter run at the Bryan Clay Invite in California. Her time is in the Bulldogs’ top 10. Teammate Sam Robinson posted a top BIG EAST distance in the long jump, a wind-aided mark of 7.40 meters.
- DePaul’s Alex Campanella recorded a PR in the 3,000-meter steeple at the Beach Invite on Friday when he finished at 9:24. 85, ninth overall and fifth among college competitors, which ranks second in the BIG EAST, 89th in the West. His teammate Jessica Watkins took over the lead in the conference for the 100-meter dash (11.97).
- Brittney Feivor of Marquette set a new personal best in the 10,000 meter run, finishing third out of 36 competitors at the Mt. SAC Relays in California over the weekend. Her time of 34:53.06 is the second-fastest in Marquette history, 39th in the West Region and 75th nationally. Golden Eagle Dwayne Dash flew to a new season-best in the long jump at the Pacific Beach Invite over the weekend with a mark of 7.37 meters which ranks second in the BIG EAST and 48th in the West.
- Providence’s Julian Oakley won the mile at the Ocean State Invitational. He won with a time of 4:03.88, missing the facility record by .4 seconds and won by three seconds. His 1,500 time ranks 34th in the East.
- St. John’s Adriana Wright won the 100-meter hurdles at the Outdoor Met Championships with a time of 13.65 seconds. She also finished second at the 200-meter dash (24.11 seconds). Although she has run faster, these times would still top the BIG EAST lists. Teammate Julia Schwan won the heptathlon with 4,340 points, more than 300 than the second-place finisher. She finished first in five events, the 100-meter hurdles (15.11 seconds), the high jump (1.55 meters), the 200-meter dash (25.86 seconds), the long jump (5.11 meters) and the 800-meter dash (2:32.80). Her hept finish is the 46th-best performance in the NCAA East Division and second-best in the league. SJU finished runner up at the Outdoor Mets.
