Game 1: Villanova 10, Fairleigh Dickinson 0 – 6 in.
Game 2: Villanova 5, Fairleigh Dickinson 2 – 9 in.
The Wildcats (27-14) defeated the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights (3-27) in both games of a doubleheader on Thursday afternoon. Villanova won the first game 10-0 in six innings and the second game by a final score of 5-2 in nine innings. In game one, VU got off to a fast start in the first inning, as the team crossed the plate five times to take an early lead. The Wildcats added another run in the top of the second inning when Nikki Alden hit her ninth home run of the season; a solo shot to left center, to put her team ahead 6-0.Villanova extended its lead and ultimately took the game10-0 in the top of the sixth inning, with three straight walks on a loaded bases situation. Villanova kept the momentum going in the second game, taking the lead with a run in the first inning. Fairleigh Dickinson answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning. The score remained that way until the bottom of the sixth, despite the Wildcats loading the bases in the third inning. The Knights took a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning., but Villanova responded with a run in the top of the seventh as Dana Morris doubled to right center to bring in Lauren Herschberg and tie the game at 2-2.The Wildcats closed out the game with three runs in the top of the ninth inning. Brette Lawrence (W, 19-7) claimed both wins in the circle, pitching four scoreless innings in the first game and the final 3.2 innings of the second game.
