Georgetown Maintains Lead After Day Two Of Women's Golf

CALLAWASSIE ISLAND, S.C. – Georgetown continued to lead after the second day of competition at the 2017 BIG EAST Women’s Golf Championship Presented by Jeep at the Callawassie Island Golf Club.  Individually, Seton Hall junior Cassie Pantelas maintained her first-place position with a two-over-par 74 for a two-round score of 145 (+1).  She shot 74 on Saturday after a 71 in the first round.

Georgetown has compiled a two-day team score of 599 (+23), eight strokes ahead of Butler at 607.  The Bulldogs had the best team score of the day with a 10-over-par 298 and moved into second place.  St. John’s is three strokes behind Butler in third place at 610.  Defending champion Seton Hall remained fourth with a score of 626 followed by Xavier (632) and Creighton (650).

The team winner of the BIG EAST Championship receives an automatic berth to the NCAA Championship. 

Second to Pantelas on the individual leaderboard is St. John’s freshman Kaitleen Shee, who trails by two strokes at 147.  Shee shot a 74 in the second round.

After Pantelas and Shee, there are four Georgetown Hoyas and three Butler Bulldogs in the top 10.  Hoya sophomore Alexa Popowitz and Bulldog sophomore Lauren Tibbets are tied for third at 148 (+4).  Tibbets had the low round of the day with a one-under-par 71.  Popowitz shot 76.

Butler’s Abigail Gleixner is fifth at 149.  Georgetown teammates Jacquelyn Eleey and Lauren Gros are tied for sixth at 150 (+6).  Betsy Werner of Butler is ninth at 153 (+9) and Ashley Fitzgibbons of Georgetown is tied for 10th at 154 (+10). 

The final day of the 54-hole tournament will begin at 8 a.m. ET on Sunday.   Georgetown, the team runner-up in each of the past three seasons, will be aiming for its first BIG EAST title.
