Gators top NR/RV Temple while Georgetown upsets No. 13 Denver for shot at the crown and No. 1 seed.

NEW YORK – The four teams that have already punched their tickets to the 2017 BIG EAST Women’s Lacrosse Championship presented by Jeep squared off in head-to-head action today as No. 2/2 Florida topped Temple, 15-5, and Georgetown defeated No. 13/13 Denver 9-7. The outcomes impacted the format of the conference postseason, set for May 4 and 6 at Villanova University, as the Gators clinched at least a share of the BIG EAST regular-season title and a top-two seed, setting up a dramatic finale against the Hoyas next weekend.

Florida and Georgetown meet in Gainesville at 1 p.m. (ET) next Saturday, with the winner earning the BIG EAST Championship’s No. 1 seed. A win for the Gators would lock up their second consecutive outright BIG EAST title, after sharing the crown with Georgetown in 2015. The Hoyas would have to wait for the outcomes of Temple-UConn and Denver-Cincinnati to learn their seed. A win for Georgetown would clinch a share of trophy with Florida, with the Gators claiming the No. 2 seed.

Only Georgetown or Florida can be the No. 1 seed as setbacks for the Pioneers and Owls today put them at two games behind the current leader with just one game to play.
