#BIGEASTbase Weekly Honors Awarded To Xavier’s Bannon; Creighton’s Rogalla
NEW YORK – Xavier infielder Rylan Bannon and Creighton pitcher Keith Rogalla earn BIG EAST weekly honors after week three of league action.
BIG EAST Player of the Week
Rylan Bannon, Xavier, Jr., 3B (Joliet, Ill.)
Xavier third baseman Rylan Bannon hit .526 (10-for-19) during a 4-1 week for the Musketeers that included a 3-0 sweep over Butler. Bannon led the team and the league last week in hits, RBI (nine), home runs (3) and total bases (19). Six of Bannon’s RBI came in league play as the Musketeers defeated Butler, 13-4; 17-12 and 3-2. In the 17-12 victory, Bannon went 6-for-6, scored twice and knocked in three with a homer, recording the most hits by an XU player since 2004. On Sunday, Bannon knocked in a run and scored the go-ahead in a 3-2 win, clinching the series sweep. He also had a three-run homer on Tuesday in a 9-1 win over Cincinnati. Bannon scored seven times and struck out just twice.
BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week
Keith Rogalla, Creighton, Jr., RHP/Starter (Oak Park, Ill.)
Creighton righty Keith Rogalla pitched 8.0 innings in the series finale against Villanova allowing just one run on four hits. He gave up his only run in the second inning, finishing the next six with no runs crossing the plate. Rogalla finished with a 1.12 ERA and 10 strikeouts on a career high 124 pitches. The Bluejays winning run came in the ninth as Rogalla came out of the game with a no decision. Creighton has won its last 10 consecutive games.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Isaac Collins, Creighton, Fr., INF (Maple Grove, Minn.)
Collins led Creighton and the league with a .643 average in an undefeated week for the Bluejays. The No. 2 hitter scored seven runs and walked four times with four stolen bases.
Sean Mooney, St. John’s, Fr., RHP/Starter (Marmora, N.J.)
Mooney delivered a dominant performance against Fairleigh Dickinson as he scattered two hits and a walk across eight scoreless innings, not allowing a single FDU runner to advance past first base. He used just 91 pitches to get through eight innings, 64 of them strikes.
Zach Prendergast, Seton Hall, Sr., RHP/Starter (Horsham, Pa.)
Starter Prendergast made a rare appearance in relief this week in addition to his start and win. The senior allowed just one run in 7.1 innings pitched for a 1.23 ERA with just five total hits, 10 strikeouts and a walk.
Matt Toke, Seton Hall, Fr., 1B (Three Bridges, N.J.)
In a perfect 5-0 week, Toke hit safely in all five games and led the Pirates and the BIG EAST with 10 hits as he averaged .455 at the plate. Toke scored six times and knocked in five RBI with a double and a triple and a .519 on-base percentage.
Ryan Doty, Villanova, Jr., RHP/Starter (Rye, N.Y.)
Doty made a start and a relief appearance for Villanova for a total of 8.0 innings and a 0.00 ERA. In 6.0 innings at Creighton, he allowed seven hits, one unearned un and a walk with five strikeouts. He earned the win in a 8-4 2.0 inning outing at Wagner.
