Providence, Marquette & St. John’s Earn Named #BIGEASTtrack Weekly Honorees
BIG EAST Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Julian Oakley, Providence, Grad Student, Distance (Tauranga, New Zealand)
Providence’s Julian Oakley posted the fastest time(3:43.04) in the BIG EAST and 16th best in the East Region in the 1,500-meter race at the Larry Ellis Invitational. Oakley’s time is also the 41st fastest in the NCAA this season. Oakley finished fourth in the race.
BIG EAST Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
John Krzyszkowski, Marquette, Sr., Throws Missisauga, Ontario)
Golden Eagle John Krzyszkowski won the javelin throw at the Illinois Twilight meet with a season-best throw of 71.44 meters. His mark fell less than a meter shy of his personal-best. His throw is the seventh best in the West Region and ranks 13th nationally.
BIG EAST Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Adriana Wright, St. John’s, Sr., Sprints (St. Elizabeth, Jamaica)
St. John’s sprinter Adriana Wright marked two BIG EAST top times over the weekend at the Georgia Tech Invite. The Red Storm runner ran a 400-meter hurdle time of 1:00.29, ranking 56th in the East Region and 94th in the NCAA. She placed fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.83 seconds.
BIG EAST Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Nyla Woods, St. John’s, Jr., Throws (Fayetteville, Ga.)
Red Storm thrower Nyla Woods marked a league top mark in the hammer throw with a distance of 58.38 meters. Her throw ranks 41st in the East and 75th in the NCAA this season. Woods finished runner up in the event, which was a personal best throw.
BIG EAST Notable Performances
- Butler’s Allie Vogeler won the 400-meter hurdles at the Illinois Twilight in 1:01.26.
- DePaul’s Trevor Kintyhtt won both the Discus and Hammer throw at the Illinois Twilight meet. In the Hammer throw, he set a personal best throw of 60.31 meters, a distance that leads the BIG EAST, ranks 40th in the West and 82nd nationally. His throw in the discus was not his best this season, but he threw 51.34 meters and remains the only BIG EAST thrower to surpass 50 meters this season.
- Georgetown’s Eion Nohilly and Autumn Eastman both marked league-best times in their respective 3,000-meter steeplechase races. Nohilly finished eighth in the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, Va. His time of 9:01.66 ranks 29th in the East Region and 70th nationally. Eastman’s steeple time of 10:33.74 was the 11th-fastest time in the race, 40th in the East and 87th nationally.
- Junior Gemma Tedeschi took second place at the Illinois Twilight with a pole vault mark of 3.75 meters, which is a season-best and the top mark in the league this season. It is also 92nd in the West Region.
- Villanova sophomore Harry Purcell tallied a season-best time of 47.58 seconds in the 400-meter run at the Larry Ellis Invitational. Came in third out of 40 runners with the second-best time in the BIG EAST this season. Wildcat teammate Caroline Hamilton recorded a throw of 42.50 meters in the javelin throw, placing fifth in a field of 22 athletes. She already has the second-longest throw in the league and it would be 74th in the East.
- Xavier’s Russell Platt marked the league-best time in the 100-meter run at the Pacesetter Invitational at Indiana State with a time of 10:57. The time also ranks 82nd in the East Region. Platt also placed second in the high jump event, which would also be the second best jump (2.01 meters) in the BIG EAST standings.
