OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -
Senior second baseman Todd Czinege (Overland Park, Kan.) and senior starting pitcher Hunter Schryver (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) were each selected as one of ten finalists for the 2017 Senior CLASS Award for baseball as announced on Thursday morning.  Czinege and Schryver were originally named to the initial list of 30 candidates.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. The complete list of finalists follows this release.

Todd Czinge is a finance major in the Villanova School of Business, which was ranked the No. 1 undergraduate business school in the nation in the 2016 Bloomberg Business Week rankings. He was also named to the BIG EAST All-Academic Team in each of his first three collegiate seasons and was recently named to the inaugural Athletic Director's Honor Roll for the Fall of 2016. On the field, Czinege leads the Wildcats offensively. He currently has a .310 batting average, 39 hits five doubles, one triple, and two homeruns. He is a leader on and off the field.

Hunter Schryver is enrolled in Villanova's nationally competitive College of Engineering and is a mechanical engineering major. Just recently, he tied third in school history for 222 career strikeouts and is currently tied with head coach Kevin Mulvey. Schryver was named the Preseason BIG EAST Pitcher of the Year and has been dominant on the mound for the Wildcats all season.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

Finalists were chosen by national media from the list of 30 candidates announced in March. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the winner. Fans are encouraged to vote on the Senior CLASS Award website through June 7. Fan votes will be combined with media and Division I head coaches’ votes to determine the winner. This year’s Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2016 College World Series® in June. For more information on all of the finalists, visit seniorCLASSaward.com.
