Seton Hall's Lloyd Jefferson Go Has Earned All-Conference Honors Again
NEW YORK – Seton Hall senior Lloyd Jefferson Go is the lone repeat selection on the All-BIG EAST First Team for men’s golf. The BIG EAST announced its All-BIG EAST First and Second Teams today. The honorees were chosen by the league’s head coaches, who were not permitted to vote for their own players.
The news comes in advance of the 2017 BIG EAST Men’s Golf Championship Presented by Jeep, which will be held at Callawassie Island Golf Club in Callawassie Island, S.C., April 30 through May 2.
The BIG EAST Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year and Coaching Staff of the Year will be announced after the BIG EAST Championship.
Go is joined on the All-BIG EAST First Team by teammate Gen Nagai, Jonathan Hewett of DePaul, Sam Madsen of Georgetown and Oliver Farrell of Marquette. Hewett was an All-BIG EAST Second Team pick last year.
Go is aiming to become the first Seton Hall golfer to win two BIG EAST individual titles. He took first place last year by firing a six-under-par 210 (70-65-75). His 65 in the second round set a course record and was the second lowest score in Championship history. This year, he is the highest ranked individual in the BIG EAST, according to GolfStat, and has compiled a 70.60 average score. Nagai, a sophomore, has compiled a 72.39 stroke average and three top-10 finishes.
Hewett has been DePaul’s leader this year. The senior owns a 74.15 stroke average and has posted two top-10 finishes. Georgetown’s Madsen, a junior, enters the Championship coming off two top-five finishes. For the year, he has a 73.44 stroke average. Madsen was the runner-up to Seton Hall’s Go in last year’s Championship. Marquette’s Farrell is second to Go in the league’s individual player rankings. The sophomore is averaging 72.03 strokes per round and has carded 25 rounds of par or better. Farrell has had the team's lowest score and best finish in eight of his 10 regular-season starts.
Due to a tie in the voting, the All-BIG EAST Second Team has six members with six different schools represented – Freddy Thomas of DePaul, Patrick Allgeier of Butler, Cole Berman of Georgetown, Matt Murlick of Marquette, Chris Yeom of Seton Hall and Lucas Trim of Villanova.
DePaul’s Thomas was an All-BIG EAST First Team selection last year. He and teammate Hewitt flipped all-conference positions this year. Thomas has a 74.21 stroke average. He tied for fifth in last year’s championship. Georgetown’s Berman, who also earned All-BIG EAST Second Team honors last year, has a 73.70 stroke average. He has finished in the top 10 three times, including one first-place showing.
Butler’s freshman Patrick Allgeier leads the team with a 73.63 stroke average. He enters the Championship with five straight top-10 finishes. Marquette’s Murlick has enjoyed an impressive freshman campaign with a 74.07 stroke average and three top-10 finishes. Seton Hall’s Yeom is coming off two consecutive top-10 finishes. He sports a 73.57 stroke average. Villanova’s Trim is an experienced senior, who leads the Wildcats with a 73.80 stroke average. He has finished sixth or better in five of his last six tournaments, including a tie for first and two ties for second.
