No. 2/2 Denver earns top seed and outright regular-season title.

 
NEW YORK – The field for the BIG EAST Men’s Lacrosse Championship presented by Jeep, was solidified as Denver locked up its fourth-straight regular season title with its 21st straight league win. Villanova locked in the No. 2 seed in the tournament with a victory over Providence. Top-seeded Denver will play No. 4 seed Marquette in the first semifinal on Thursday, May 4 at 4:30 p.m. ET; No. 2 Villanova will play at No. 3 Providence in the 7 p.m. semifinal. Both semifinals will air on CBS Sports Network; while Saturday’s championship match, set for 4:30 p.m. ET, will air on FS2.
 
Both of the semifinals will be rematches of Saturday’s games.
 
No. 15 Villanova (9-5, 4-1 BIG EAST) clicked the final piece into place by defeating Providence (9-6, 3-2), 15-7. The win gave the Wildcats the No. 2 seed in the tournament. Reigning BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week Jack Curran scored four goals and added an assist for the Wildcats. Curran’s assist on Connor Kirst’s goal in the second period put Villanova ahead 8-1. VU maintained a six to seven goal lead for the rest of the game. The Wildcats started the game up 5-0. For the Friars, Keenan Assaraf scored two goals to lead PC.
 
No. 2 Denver (11-2, 5-0 BIG EAST) defeated Marquette (6-7, 2-3 BIG EAST) 16-8 in Milwaukee. The win marked six in a row for Denver this season, and the 21st consecutive win for the Pioneers in league play. Pioneer freshman Ethan Walker led the Pioneers for the second-consecutive game with seven points on four goals and three assists. Walker has scored 35 points during the Pios winning streak. Sophomore Colton Jackson added four goals of his own for his fifth career hat trick. Tewaaraton nominee Connor Cannizzaro also tallied a hat trick for Denver, the 11th time Denver has had three different players record hat tricks in the same game since the start of the 2015 season. Marquette’s Joe Dunn led the Golden Eagles with a hat trick.
 
St. Johns’ visited Georgetown in the first game of the day. The Hoyas defeated the Red Storm 14-4. Georgetown’s Daniel Bucaro and Patrick Aslanian each netted hat tricks. Georgetown finished its season at 4-10, 1-4 in BIG EAST play. St. John’s ended 2017 at 1-13, 0-5 in conference.
