NEW YORK – Jenna Foreman of Butler was named BIG EAST Softball Player of the Week and St. John’s Madison Morris was named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week the conference announced Monday.
BIG EAST Player of the Week :
Jenna Foreman, Butler, So., OF
Hot at the plate, Foreman finished last week with seven consecutive base hits and a .846 batting average, leading the Bulldogs to a perfect 4-0 week. The sophomore had 11 hits in 13 at-bats, including going 9-for-10 against Villanova in a three-game weekend BIG EAST series. Foreman scored five runs and knocked in another. She was a perfect 6-for-6 in stolen base attempts. Foreman also had three outfield assists in the team’s four games.
BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week : Madison Morris, St. John’s, So.
The hurler was crucial to the Johnnies sweep over Creighton as the sophomore picked up two wins in the circle in relief effort. Morris finished 2-0 with seven strikeouts and held Creighton hitters to a .154 batting average. In game two, Morris came in with the team trailing 7-3 during the third inning and tossed 4.2 innings of hitless ball and recorded five strikeouts to secure her third win at 11-7. The sophomore did the same thing in the finale as Morris tossed 2.1 innings of two-run ball with two strikeouts to register a 13-6 win.
Weekly Honor Roll
Mikeila Boroff, Butler, Jr., P
Posting a 2.33 ERA in 15 innings, the right-handed pitcher went 3-0 last week, including a complete shutout in game two against the Wildcats, scattering four hits and two walks in the 5-0 Butler win.
Gretchen Bowie, St. John’s, Fr., UTIL
Slugging 1.125, Bowie produced eight RBIs, five runs and two homers to help St. John’s sweep the Bluejays and improve to 6-0 in league play. Her performance included two grand slams against Creighton.
Noelle Holiday, Georgetown, Fr., 1B
Holiday recorded nine RBI to go along with five hits and three runs. The rookie also smashed three homers against the Friars.
Vanessa Portillo, Providence, So., INF
Portillo tallied at least one run in all four of the Friars’ contests, finishing the weekend with five and a .417 batting average.
Alexis Walkden, Seton Hall, Jr., INF
Batting .462 and collecting five RBI, Walkden helped the Pirates secure a 2-1series mark over DePaul.
